Where can I buy Treso nipples for a Walker? The nipples that came on it take #10 caps and I would rather use #11's. Actually I want to change to Tresos because Mako (I believe) said that they reduce the blowback. Right now when I shoot, I'm getting a hole a little less than 1/16" blown right thru the middle of the cap. I don't know if that is normal or not. I just know that it's never happened with any of my other C&B revolvers. Thanks in advance. WM

It happens... Normally you just have the cap flattened and ripped up a bit.  Is the Pistol a Uberti or an ASM?

If you have access to a caliper then take a tube out of the cylinder and find some different wire thicknesses to stick in the hole.  Common multi strand electrical wire may be all you need.  See if you can find a size that fits and measure it.  smaller gage wire will have smaller wire in the strands.  I'm interested in the small flash hole exit size as well as the exit diameter.  You can probably give me a rough I.D. measurement using a caliper on the big hole.

You can also visually compare it to your other pistol tube flash holes..

What kind of load are you shooting? Powder type, grain size and charge.  Bullet wight?

I will measure the nipples, but first the load was 40g 2f and then 50g 2f (BP of course) the roundball was a 454 and weight was a little less than 135g Hornaday. Pistol is a Uberti Walker. Supposedly a full load is 60g of 3f but today was the first time I have fired it as I just got them on last Friday. I didn't have any #10 caps and couldn't find any locally so I only loaded and shot one cyl at a time as the #11 caps are very loose on the nipples. WM

The top of the nipple ID is 1.8mm, bottom is .8 my caliper is an inexpensive one but that should be close. Length is 16mm or 5/8" hope that is enough to go on. I just looked at the hammer and it has a slot running up to the center of where it strikes the cap. WM

WM,
The Treso flash holes are 0.65mm it would definitely be worth a try.  The slot on the hammer is common to post Paterson Colt's pattern revolvers.  It is the feature that fits over the safety pin that allows you to rest the hammer between caps on a fully loaded cylinder.

A lot of us fill the slot, with weldment, braze filler material, a metal filled epoxy or even a plate added to the face of the hammer.  You can easily add a metal filled epoxy like "JB Weld" to the slot and it will help as well.  A lot of caps rupture at the slot which is why filling the safety slot makes sense if you are only ever going to load 5 in a cylinder.  If I was carrying 150 years ago I would definitely load six, but for the 3 primary CAS disciplines we are relegated to 5 in a pistol.

Thank you. I checked my ASM OT and it also has that slot but no safety pin. I will definitly get some Treso nipples for them. WM
