12ga brass resizing?

OK pards, I got me a problem.....

After shooting all 40 of my 12ga brass through my Stoeger Coach a few times each, I have noticed a slight step on the cases, about half way up on one side only, rising to the  top. This obviously makes reloads hard to chamber & extract due to them being oversized.

My press takes 7/8" dies.....

Is there a tool I can make for resizing? Maybe a piece of metal plate bored to the correct brass diameter(?) to
hammer them through.

I honed the chambers a little last weekend so things should be a bit smoother in there.

There are 12 guage brass shell resizing dies - I think it is an RCBS product.  If I remember right you have to call to order them - since they do not show up on their internet sales site (however that was a while back so that may have changed).

The big issues that I have seen that happens with the 12 guage brass is usually more of an issue with shooting the shells through 3 and 3-1/2 inch chnambers over a multi-use or year period and then trying to use them with a gun set for 2-3/4 chambers.

I have not had the issue you discuss below happen to me - but I have not shot a stoeger shotgun with my brass shells.

We have the parts to deprime and reprime the Magtech shells for our 600 JR or Mark V reloaders.  I believe that the kit retails at around $30.00

I got this from Nate Kiowa Jones about ten years ago or so.  It is a steel bar about 1/2" thick.  Usually only have to use the .795 hole.  The holes are chamfered to help get the shell started.  Lube the shell, pound it into the hole with a rubber mallet with the bar over the open jaws of a vice.  Then turn it over, insert a socket driver inside shell so the socket fits around the flash hole and pound it back out.  Most of my brass hulls are pretty old, Winchesters, REM-UMC, Alcans.  I usually only need to do the resizing when they get out of round at the mouth.

A good simple tool.  I bin meaning to contact him about gittin' one. . . . keep furgetin' as I've not had any trouble with my Mag Tech brass.

I've had my box of Magtec 12Ga Brass shotshells for a couple of year now, not problems at all. Course' they would probaby show a little more wear if I took them off teh hutch above my desk, lol!

Try LOLO Sports. They have sizing/decapping dies as well as a crimp die with shell holder.
You will need to get another press, like the Lee Classic, so you can screw the dies in as they are MUCH larger than the std 7/8 die size.

RCBS makes a 12 gauge die set, I believe in their Cowboy series of dies. As mentioned above you'll need a Lee challenger classic cast iron press or similar press with the larger hole. Same size as a 50 cal. die.

Just a tiny bit of rounding of the edge of the hole, to help get the mouth of the hull started into the hole.

It can't have a long taper or it won't full length resize.

The RCBS cowboy 12 G dies in either a Rockchucker or a LEE cast classic will do the job with ease, as well as deprime and reprime.

Use case lube on the hulls or it will be a nightmare.

Note that there is an obsolete RCBS 12g set (they show up on ebay) that work well for reloading plastic hulls but aren't what you want for brass cases.

I just use an old Lee Handloader.  Pound shells into sizing die and then knock them back out.  No press needed and do it while watching TV.  I also load the brass in same casula fashion.  Not too complicated and sort of multi-tasking - if you consider watching TV a "task."

They are larger than that!  I think about .805".  They don't even touch the sides of shells fired in the TOZ66 or Husqvarna underlever.  There is a difference in European & American chamber tolerances it seems.

The Brass shells are tapered and not straight walled as many believe.

My CBC- Magtec 12's measure .795" at the mouth and taper to .808" at the rim. Center measure's .800"

Measured shells are new unfired, have only been mouth sized and slight roll with a Lee Classic Loader.
