Steel Horse,
I figured you'd have seen Pettifoggers articles by now.

I use a threaded button on my Ubertis and I thought I had at least one picture on photobucket or on my computer of an arbor end, but it appears I don't.  Here is link to where I was talking about them.

I like Pettifigger's idea, you need a lathe to make my buttons and the machine work on the arbor is more demanding.

Thanks very much, Mako.  While I go on The Open Range (from time to time) my main "looking" is here.  Thanks VERY much for the links.

Steel Horse, the firing pin on my '71/2 OT was mushrooming at the head and bending. I ordered a hardened tool steel one from VTI and will pick my gun up tomorrow. It outta be good to go now.

Now that I've read (and printed - I hope that's OK) Larsen P's directions, I want to thank Mr. Pettifogger for a wonderful set of directions.  Also, I'd like to thank Mako for "reminding" me that this is not the ONLY good site to watch!  LoL!

Larsen Pettifogger, your articles are very clear and worded simply enough that ANY normal do-it-yourself-er can follow the directions easily.  I especially like the way you include the use of alternate tools.  (see: pages 15-18 of Part 3)  I have a number of specialized machinist's tools, but NOT a machinist's centering square, as shown in photo #60.  I do have, however, a Starrett Combination Square I use infrequently that I inherited from my Dad.

Thanks again to all of you who take the time to write and post the many informative posts for us dunderheads.  You ARE appreciated.

Marshal Deadwood, glad that your "baby" will be in running order!

I'm very excited!!!   :D   I've been a member here for years via my 1860 Army, but today (Mon) or tomorrow I should be able to pick up my new 1872 OT in 44 spl.  Now, all I gotta do is git some BigLube boolits from SpringySlim for 44 cal, and I'm set!  I have plenty of gunpowder,  ('bout a third of a case of Goex 3F) plenty o'primers, and I hope I can soon find my 44 spl. cases that have been "put away" for at least a decade, since I haven't loaded any 44 cal. (spl.) loads in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGGGG time.  I've loaded many a 44 Mag. but I sure don't want to mix THOSE!  (I'm hoping that the new cylinder will be bored right, so a Mag round won't chamber in it.)  But if it does, I DO have some Cowboy spec loads that are in 44 M cases that shoot like a laser from my S&W 629.  They are probably the most accurate loads I've ever made.  5.2 grs. Clays, behind a 200 gr. RNFP hard-cast pill from Valiant.  Gasp!!!  I told on myself!  Most folks who I shoot with wouldn't believe that old Steel Horse actually shoots smokeyless loads from time to time!  (But not for a long time at an NCOWS or SASS match!  It just wouldn't feel right.  Like shooting wif 2 hands.  LOL!)

Got my OT back yesterday, and gave'er a run today. At 15 yds,,a hole puncher as always,,and my gunsmith got the VTI firing pin installed for an exactly hit with correct depth on the primers.

I really like the brass button installed and fited on the arbor. Just like the way Pettifoger described doing it. Gunsmiths fit was flawless..exact,,and I mean exact fit.

I'm a happy camper once again. Now I'll have him 'arbor job' my Richards Mason.
