The show was mostly directed toward the SASS folks, especially the "gamers".  I don't remember anything mentioned about NCOWS on the show. Midway's sponsorship was dropped and no one wanted to sponsor it.

Midway never formally dropped the sponsorship, but the programming department cancelled the show before any sponsorship was renewed or considered.

Have in mind that businesses catering to the cowboy action market are primarily small and medium sized and TV advertising is not within reach in their marketing budgets.

It had a lot of things on it that I liked. Loved the one on pocket pistols and top break revolvers. Also found the program on Custer of interest also the one on Buffalo Bill. I did prefere the first host best, Richard Young. Shot with him in Texas several times and he is an alright cowboy. The last host I met one time and never shot with him, don't know if he does shoot, guess he does though. All in all I will miss it, not a lot of programs out there about cowboy action shooting of any kind. Tj  :'(

I wrote them about the fact they should do a show on NCOWS and talk about other CAS groups other than SASS and they said they did talk of NCOWS. I do remember they did show an NCOWS group once. Way back when it was new. But you are right, they focused on SASS more than anything. Too much b-western outfits and short strok kits for my taste.

But it was good to at least get some CAS out there for people to see.

The Wild Bunch show was a repeat. I'd seen it last season.

Take a gander over on the History Channel.  They are airing old episodes of "The Real West" documentaries that aired back in the early 90's.  They are hosted by Kenny Rogers and enjoyable to watch.  They air about one episode per week (usually at odd hours).

Also, I've seen ads for a new show called "Gun Stories" on the Outdoor network.  I don't get Outdoor network, but the advertisements look interesting.

Joe Mantagena hosts the "Gun Stories" show. It covers different guns. The night that I watched it, they featured the K98 Mauser.

Gun stories was good this week. About the S&W break top revolvers. I recorded a copy of it on DVD to keep it for my collection. I missed last weeks show on the BAR. I really wanted to see that one but I got called in to work (I was on call).

I'll have to wait for the BAR repeat to see it.

It has been quite some time ago, back when Nationals was held at the range in Ackley, that the guys from Cowboys came for 4 days and did do a show on NCOWS. However the program seems to be more geared towards SASS in many respects.  I am just pleased that there is no sensoring of the gun thing on that show.

Unfortunately our cable system doesn't offer the Outdoor Channel in the deluxe-expanded subscription plan I have.....so, I've never seen an episode of cowboys, gun stories, etc.

Oh, yes..I even remember a film crew at Ackley one year...never knew who it was until today  ;)

Gun Stories was great tonight. The story of the 1911. Gun Stories is really turning into a very good program, I don't want to miss it. Tj   :)

I agree TJ. Gun stories is a really good addition to the line up. The 1911 one was great. I missed the one about the BAR and it makes me mad I did. But I had to go into work and fix some issues. I was primary on call that night.   :'(

One show I don't like at all is "The Gun Nuts". For two reasons. One. It's boring. They talk in a tone that makes them seem almost asleep. Two. I'm not into Field and Stream due to the number of anti gun articles and opinons they have printed in their magazine. They are all about hunting, but they take the anti-gun stance when it comes to military style guns (at least they used to a couple of years ago). Back in the 90s I read article after article about how they thought that Assault Weapons should be banned and nobody had a reason to own or want one. I guess I just can't forgive them for that.

It must be something about some hunters. I've gotten into arguments with various hunters about the reasons to own, collect and shoot military styled guns (guns they mistakenly call Assauilt Weapons). A true assault weapon is one that has the ability of select fire. To shoot semi or full auto. A military style gun sold to the publis (as most here probably already know) shoots in semi-auto only. They just LOOK like the military model. This has forever tainted me against Field and Stream.

If I remember correctly CBS bought F&S in the 70's. That was the reason Richard Starnes "retired". That was also when I no longer got a subscription. WM
