My first project - completed

I started work on my holster project about a week ago and finished it today.  Spent LOTS of time before that reading, watching video, lurking here, etc.  Holster is for my 1849 Pocket Pistol.  Used 6/7 oz leather because of relatively small size of gun.  Pics below. "LJM" stands for Long Juan Maker. It's my poor man's maker's mark.  Holster will hang nearly vertical from my left suspender - cross draw. Snap is not period correct, but will help attaching and detaching from my suspender. Toe plug was the only real problem I had.  I started with two thicknesses of the 6/7 oz leather, but had trouble getting the awl through the plug.  Ended up using single thickness 8/9 oz, which is not sturdy enough.  I am nevertheless pleased with the result overall, learned lots and will do better next time. Next planned project is a screw knife sheath, also to hang on my suspender - probably not at the same time.  Thanks to all here who knowingly and unknowingly gave me help.

Long Juan, the finished product shows some great craftsmanship but also a good deal of imagination.  Look forward to seeing a picture of this rig being worn.  Amazing first project.

Juan:

Great looking first project. It's simple, clean and has an authentic period look. Those are all good things in my book.
