Just trying to figure out what the differance is between an Uberti 1873 Cattleman, a Taylor's 1873 Cattleman, and a Cimarron Model P.
Is it the same gun or are there things that make one more of them desirable/better than the others?
or can I buy the Uberti instead of the Cimaron and save $100 and have the SAME gun ?

Thanks

Jake, The Taylor's and the straight Uberti's have the safety mechanism in the hammer, the Cimarron's have the double notched cyl. pin as the safety device with nothing incorporated into the hammer. The only other differences are in some markings specified by the individual importer. I've got a Cimarron and EMF's, the only difference is what I've mentioned. Different importers can also specify the type/ weight of the springs in the works as well. I've found that the Cimarron's tend to be lighter sprung than some of the others.......Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

While my new Uberti Cattleman has the safety mechanism in the hammer, gunsmiths suggest not using it and leave just (5) rounds in the pistol with the hammer on empty.

That's the best and safest way to carry a SAA, hammer down on an empty chamber, no matter what other safety types they have......Buck 8) ::) ;)

The Cimarron fit and finish on their standard guns is made to their standards and rejected if they don't pass Cimarron's inspection.  The fit and finish on these guns is generally better than the average Uberti, plus their hammer and trigger pull seem smoother. The Cimarron US Finish guns look even better than a 3rd generation Colt and out shoot them too.

Quick update.

I got 2 Cimarron model P's. Both 4 3/4 inc, blue in .45 colt.
I'm one way happy cowboy!!!
Both guns have a fit and finish that is just simply outstanding!

EJ:

You are also one smart Cowboy as Cimarron for the money is an outstanding value.  I have also found Cimarron customer service to be superior to most in the SAA replica business.  Ask for Bill at Cimarron and he will take care of you if you have any problems with the gun.

Next!  What rifle?  ;D

Virginia Gentleman

If I were asked, I just picked up another Cimarron 5 1/2" barrel SAA with the spare .45 ACP cylinder and a .45 Colt rifle just may be in the cards for the future.

Next rifle will be a Rossi 92 in .45 colt
I already have one in .357 I like it and I'm used to it.
have a 1873 in mind if I can ever save up some money.

The rifles are expensive, but look great and if made in the US would be double the price.
