Can anyone recommend a good quality cleaning kit?

I have:

12g 1878 coach gun
1873 Uberti Carbine .44.-40
.22 Henry rifle

looking to get:
revolvers for NCOWS in .44-40
Glock .45 auto or 9mm personal carry

Any good kits that could cover all of that?

Also, I just got the '73.  Shot it today and did not do very well.   :( I think it needs cleaned.
Anybody have some good cleaining instructions?  Don't think there were any in the box.

Thanks.
Laura

Laura,

Most cleaning kits that have all of the brushes and jigs that you will need are expensive.  What you need is a take down rod to fit the rifle, you can use the short hand piece for the pistols.  A brass chamber and barrel brush, patches that match your caliber, cleaning solvent, oil and screwdrivers that fit your screws on your gun or rifle.  I would not worry too much on your shooting, if it is a new 73 it will take a little time to break in, also the cresent butt plate is not always kind to the female form.  Open the action and spray the heck out of everything wipe it off with a patch or rag.  Run the brush with solvent down the barrel a few times and follow with a patch on a jig.  The screwdriver can take off the side plate on the 73 to oil the toggles in there, but that is not done that often unless it is dry.  Revolvers are normally cleaned by removeing the cilynder (sic) spray it and wipe it down run the brush and patches down the barrel  and do the same for the cylinder, lube the cylinder pin.  Hope this helps, if not give me a PM and I can go into greater detail.  Good choice on the one true caliber (44-40)

I only shoot to support my reloading habit.

Laura, try  html//marauder.homestead.com/rifles.html   that might help on knowing what to take apart etc. WM
WARTHOG, Dirty Rat #600, BOLD #1056, CGCS,GCSAA, NMLRA, NRA, AF&AM, CBBRC.  If all that cowboy has ever seen is a stockdam, he ain't gonna believe ya when ya tell him about whales.

I've had this one for years now and really like it especially for rifles and shotguns. http://www.amazon.com/Outers-25-Universal-Cleaning-Caliber/dp/B000K7H51K/ref=sr_1_8?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1306154353&sr=1-8

Now it comes with all the brush and things for 22LF up to 12 gauge shot gun both long gun and pistol. Now of course these things will have to be replaced over time and it doesn't come with the cleaning products but to me an advantage.

I also have the smaller one in just a wooden box with the tools only which is probably 20 years old now.

I'm betting that you're not overly familiar with your guns. You really need to know how to field strip what you have, what needs scrubbing and what just needs a wipe off. I think you ought to ask a couple of Cowboy Shooters to help you get started. More guns are worn out from cleaning than shooting.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

You get what you pay for...Most of the kits are just crap.  It's costly- your money ahead buying the stuff according to the weapon you desire to clean
