Saw a pic online of what appears to be a Pettingill D/A with a contraption on it that carries eight, count'em, eight, six shot cylinders. It appears that the device is manually indexed by a modified loading lever rig. It now qualifies as the weirdest device I have ever seen. I was wondering if it is allowed to post the pic in here?

Heck yeah you can post a pic.  Looking forward to seeing it.

Really neat.  Not a Pettingill though as it has an outside hammer.

Dang, how'd I miss that  :-[ A Butterfield, perhaps? I saw a post on another forum that suggested that it might be a 'Steampunk' prop. I think it could go either way. No, not a Butterfield, the hammer looks familiar, just can't place it.

I don't get it. It's an open top revolver but the cylinders rotate in from the bottom. What holds the gun together?

That's what I'm trying to figure out.

A chain fire would look like the fourth of July though.

Looks like the brass bar under the barrel resting in a 'V' cradle and lock in the front with the arm connected to the wheel.  Presume there is a bolt pin on the end of the brass bar
Kind of neat - never saw a curio like this before

It would take a whole cow to make a holster for that thing.

Hammer looks like it came from an Allen DA pepperbox.

That's where I recognize the hammer from. Gotta agree with Sir Charles. Looks awfully Steampunk, but, where are the wires and tubing and copper plates etc.? Regardless, looks about as practical as a laser sight on a Brown Bess.

Excuse my ignorance, but what the heck is Steampunk?

Geez, Pettifogger,

It is SO nice to have an answer for you rather than the other way around ..... and Wikipedia has a nice little article on it:

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...
