Padoug,

May wish to look down the page a little further to the Spencer shooting page.

BTW, is that a rifle with a 30" barrel or a carbine (22" or 20")?  What are the markings on the top of the receiver?  If it has a 20" barrel and marked as being manufactured by the Burnside Mfg. Co., it is a post-war model.  If a rifle, it is more scarce and desireable.  CW Spencers with a 22" barrel are more common. They were also used post-CW.

How did you come by it? Did you buy it or was it handed down through your family?  If the former, it is still a nice piece to own. And if the latter, tracking down where your ancestor got it can be very interesting!

It's a rifle 30" has spencer on the receiver, to get the date clear enough to read i would have to remove the brown patina. it came from a family member, but they have all passed and my father is the last of the ol' timers 86yo and says it came from brother bob back in the early 1960s. it's a pass on,so i wouldn't sell it just though i would look up the history to see where it's been or came from.      many thanks friend    the search is on. when i find out i'll post again.    doug
