Did some mid range 45/70 rounds. I was using the big lube 400. I think mine come in at about 385, but thats not the point. I had these boolits lubed with my mix of Thompsons PS lube and some of my mix. I had loaded up these rounds with FFG all I could get in the case compress and still seat the boolit.
It is super dry in Page but I fired 40 rounds all with good accuracy. I would look down the barrel and see just a light dusting of residue .
I guess I am just rambling . It is so much fun to get out and do some shooting. It was cold but FUN !!! Black Powder made such a big boom that people came to see what I was shooting. LOL

FUN DAY MY BLACK POWDER FRIENDS  !!! ;D

Might even look for me another highwall.

Yep, it's great fun to have the folks at the local public range scratching their heads when you're making boom and smoke and shooting 1-inch groups with open sights and a big old single shot.  They just can't figure it out, when they can't shoot that well with their scope sighted whiz-bang bolt action.

I took my High Wall to the range yesterday and after 50+ rounds of 40-65 with BP, I cleaned the barrel with 3 patches and a pull of the bore snake.

Watched one guy with his whiz bang scoped race wagon that cleaned after every shot :o and it took about 10 minutes per shot.
Oh well each to his own.

I will stay with BP and Big Lubes !!!!!!!!!!! Love the boom and smoke  ;D

Good on you Mason,

Both of the Big Lube 45 Cal rifle designs do well over extended shooting sessions without cleaning.  PRS did a good job of designing his PRS 45-250 pistol caliber bullet and the 45-70 400 grain (really closer to 390 grains) is an extension of his bullet.

I'm thinkn' that had the Brittish had them they might have beat the Zulus and had Custer had them, Big Horn might have had a different outcome.  Of course, I'm not prejudiced or anything like that. . .  ;D

Thanks for posting.  I've had good luck with my 45-70 400s also.  It now looks like the big 500 grain DD-45-70 Mk-II spitzer design may return.  This time in a six cavity mold that will fit the standard six cavity handles.  It would be made of a special high silicone aluminum alloy.  Tolerances would be held to .00005".  That's five ten thousandths of an inch.

Dick that 500 gr is just too much recoil for my neck. Remember I am just shooting a Handi rifle. Gotta start looking for me another highwall. Little more weight little less recoil. Besides my eyes aren't what they used to be. The boys at the new Page cowboy club just want to shoot some mid range for now . They do have  targets out to 550 yards and some one will be shooting at them.
