Let me start by saying...  I like the Western Channel.  I watch it...  alot!   ::)
I've never been a fan of Gene Autry, so Autry all Sunday afternoon is not my cup of tea.   :(
They made a point of telling us that Elvis made only 3 westerns and then showed only 1 about 20 times.  (Kid Galahad?).   >:(
Showing the same movie 20 or 30 or more times is also an unfortunate habit they seem to have.   :'(
I like the old TV Westerns in the morning too.  Lawman, Have Gun Will Travel, Gunsmoke, etc.  Wish they would also show Rawhide and a few others too.   :-\
Another gripe I have with them is they sometimes show movies that ain't even westerns.  If it's got automobiles in it instead of horses...  it ain't a western!  Just because the story takes place in Arizona or Texas, and all the guys are wearing Stetsons it don't automatically make it a western.  If the Model T and the 1911 were around...  it ain't a western.  (I'll bend that rule for "The Wild Bunch", a movie I really, really like).

I could go on but I'll shut up for now.  What are your thoughts on The Western Channel's programing?   :-X

I tend to agree with all you said and might add that AMC shows a lot of Eastwood westerns but they also repeat constantly. As for the Western channel I also not a fan of the "Singing Cowboy" types at all but love to see the Virginian and the Gunsmoke as well as those you listed. I also wished they played Raw Hide as well as wanted Dead or Alive. There was a few others that was good on TV such as the Guns of Will Sonnet, etc. I would also love to see the Lonesome Dove movies come to the Western Channel. The one thing I can say is there are no commercials.  ;D

What with all the Western TV shows of the 50s and early 60s, you would think they could figure out how to showcase some of the great ones that DIDN'T have multi year runs.
Yes they seem to have WAY too many repeats, but being retired, I guess I have too much time.
I've often wondered why , if an actor made over 100 Western films, that they only ever show a (SMALL) handful of them.
After watching their channel for years, I've noticed I've never seen SHANE! hmmm...

I'd love to see another good mini series, someything along the lines of Little House and Deadwood without the )(*^(&%%*&^(&*^&*^&^&^&)*&^&$###9790+_)(*)(*&_(  swearing! ;D Looks like another Gettysburg program comin up.. ::)

My wife loved "Little House".  I hated it.  I used to refer to it as "The Mild, Mild West".  You almost never saw any guns in the show.  If the farm was failing the men would weep like old women then run away from home to the big city and work some menial job until they earned enough money to return home and bail out the farm.  No Indians, no bad men, no killin'.  Maybe the worst TV western ever made.   >:(

I agree especially when Landon took over directing and such, the horses went blind, the kids went blind, every show somebody cried a river....The girl that played the baby sister lives here, one of them anyway they were twins, her husband has a small western shop here or did..She was my favorite on the show cuase she looked just like my duaghter,i talked to her husband there and he keep comin by and she will sign a picture for ya,she would have been better if she got more scenes, the others couldn't act in my humble opinion...And still can't :-\

That's why i say throw alot of Deadwood in it,and use some real history like Tutt and Hickock scenerios to livin it up some.Folks did run around with guns all the time, but they were around just like today.. ;) And for christ sake ya gotta have some charachtors~~

Why do they show the same movies over and over and over again?

Money.   It costs money to buy the rights to show movies.  Once they have bought the rights they can show the same movie over and over and over again.

We had the same thing up here, constant repeats then, they started to sneak in a Bruce Willis action movie, then another one.  Before we knew it, we were watching Sylvester Stalloneand Claude Van Dam (sp) movies until eventually all the westerns disappeared.  The only westerns we get now are on AMC, usually the Duke and Clint ones.

Overall, I'm happy with the westerns channel but there is lot of material out there, both movies nd TV shows ,that they could be using and aren't. Where are Tom Mix, Ken Maynard, Hoot Gibson. Where are Roy and Hoppy, the Lone Ranger. I realize that there are people who own the rights to this stuff but are they really making more out of DVD sales than letting the Westerns Channel use them.. The only thing that drives me nuts about the Western Channel is the CONSTANT repetition of the promos between shows. I have to mute the TV to avoid Ward Bond yelling "Wagons Ho" for the 235th time. I guess it's the trade off we get for no commercials. By the way, with no commercials, how do they make any money ?

People like us subscribing to cable company service.  The cable companies pay the Western Channel.

Danny Bear Claw, Gene flew a plane from time to time and both he and Roy drove auto's in their films. The wild west was just slow at getting new technologies not they weren't wanted.

RFDTV shows Roy on Sat. mornings now, they are the ones that bought Trigger and Bullet. One thing we need to do is figure something else to call them, investors get tired of hearin, western, westerns,a new western..Kurt Russel is about the best actor in that genre and if i hear Sam Elliot say son,one more time i'm gonna pull his mustache out one hair at a time and strieghtin his head up for him~~~ Son,i think you should go saddle that horse son, thank you son,son you growin to be a man son... :D
