What tool should I use to taper leather for spacers layers?

I'd like to be able to taper the ends of spacer layers so there's not a square end that shows. Is there a leather-working equivalent of a block plane or spokeshave I should add to my tools? Thank you, Don

Belt sander is what I use mostly. Small narrow pieces I use a knife to skive it off.

I used a utility knife, round knife, pocket knife, etc,  but now use one of the cheap safety bevelers sold by Tandy.

I have the chrome one pictured above, but the safety beveler works much better in my opinion.

A little practice and you can make a quick job of it with with a sharp French edger.  Really good for the long narrow tapers like a 3/8" filler done with a 3/8" edger.  I also have a heavier weight scraper, the kind that uses razors, and it works well for the larger needs.

I agree...with a sharp blade makes short work of any skivving job.
