Exposed seams??

Jut want to know of any experience with the exposed seams that are often used on butt wraps.  It appears to be very common for many leather workers to use an over the corner running seam to attach the pad to the wrap portion and since this is a high use area, on and off the shoulder multiple times per match, are they holding up for those using this method?  I like the look and it does not seam ( ) to be practical to use a French stitch here most of the time.  Would artificial sinew hold up better than thread here?
