I made 2 gal. of die with the pound I bought from them. I cooked it in a large pot at a simmer for about 4-5 hours over a period of 2 days.
I put leather in and soak it for 24 hours and it comes out a light brown. Not a bad color at all. It could have been stronger. I think 1lb. to 1gal water would be better for a darker color.

I had mold growing on top after about a week, I blotted it off with a paper towel and added a quart of white vinegar. No growth has come back and it has been just sitting in my shop in this big 2 gal glass jar with a non air tight glass lid.
This whole thing is just an experiment for me. This summer I will gather the real nut shells and do a proper job of making a batch.

The people who sell the powder say to use vinegar to stop any mold growth.

When you get a slime on top of your dye, just scoop it up and get rid of it, no big deal, and it doesn't hurt the dye at all, rubbing alcohol helps with this, but it will happen even when using it.

I had some mold and tried the rubbing alcohol but it left me with a massive headache the next day. The mold still persisted, too. ;D
