Hi,

I am about halfway through a Bridger Bag Kit from October Country;

Of Course, I couldn't leave well enough alone and am 'modifying it with with an external shealth to the aft end of the bag and a credit card pocket for a nipple needle and blacksmith made screwdriver.

The tops of the leather will be trimmed in a black leather, including the sheath for the patch knife. I am trying to use blacs and browns that would have been available on a wagon heading west  ... and the work done over a fire at the end of a day with whatever leather was available.

I  took two 1 1/4" roller buckles and removed the tongues; I made them into kind of a connection between bag and strap, adding some leather patches through the buckles with the strap sandwiched in by gluing and sewing the three layers together....

WWE that is a fine looking shooting bag.  Like the mods you have made as well.

Two Walks,

I happened upon this bag at the Possibles Shop ... a shop like October Country that specializes in blackpowder.

The kit is cheaper (probably, to be truthful, I didn't compare), I am guessing that the cost of the leather would have cost more than the whole kit. Then again, the leather is precut, and the kit includes not only the thread, but even the needles!

The company has been more thatn fair, even geneous at giving out/selling extra needles and thread that I needed for all the modifications ... they just asked me to send pics of my'modifications when I am done ...

My next step  ( I think) is to attach the sheath for the knife ... Dave Cole made me a little 'Gentleman's knife that, althugh just a hair too short for what I originally had in mind for it, will make a perfect patch knife and that is what I am designing the sheath around ... and he sides of the bag are about 1 1/2' side, so I am making a little 'credit card siized pocket to fit on the forward side of the bag that will hopefully hold a 'nipple prick' (almost makes you snicker to say it) and a blacksmith-made wrought iron screwdriver that might never be used, but will be historically accurate ....

I also have a really large piece of matching brown leather that I will probably sandwich on to the back  to hold gloves and other bulky things, hiding the reinforcing straps at the same time ....

Very cool, Wad. I'm looking forward to seeing it with all the mods done. It's easy to see why the seller want pics.

Here is a pic of the sheath that I am going to attach to the aft side (i.e. left side of the bag as you are facing the front) ... It is a plains indian holster that I made out of some extra leather that October Morning sent me ....
