Marlin CBC Comversion Project Started

Last year I bought a Marlin M1894CBC in .45 Colt. It was everthing that I wanted except it spit gas with the light loads made for controlling my revolvers' recoil. All attempts to really cure that failed, with the exception of using Holy Black and Winchester cases. I did not have any trouble with maximum hunting loads meant for my Ruger revolvers, but then who wants to shoot those in competition? They really are not legal anyway. The folks at Marlin were really nice, but stated that it was going to be that way because of the short action and the chubby case.

I made up my mind to have my gunsmith comvert it to .38-40. The barrel, one of Brownell's Wind River ocatagon barrels arrived last week along with the chambering reamer and headspace gauges. Now if I can just get my 'smith off of dead center on this project.

Will keep you posted. And I will still be shooting black powder, too.

I have had excellent results building light loads in .45 Colt with foam "backer rod" as a tool to keep the light powder loads situated back in the case next to the primer.

If anyone wants the "recipe".......let me know.
