"Leathercraft Tools" by Al Stohlman

I picked up a copy of this book last week and read most of it last night.

It is a really great book, covering 99% of the tools one will probably ever encounter. It talks about the tool, what it is best suited for, how to use it, alternative tools, and the best part is how to sharpen the tools.

Nice review Rickk, I will add this book to my next Tandy Order.

I watched John Bianchi's video and was in awe at what he could do with a head knife. It sure beat an X-acto knife, but he has a chunk of his shop bigger than my whole shop dedicated to just sharpening the thing so I stayed away from one.

Al Stohlman shows a much more primitive but equally effective way to sharpen the critter, so I think I will order one next time I order some stuff. It was funny to notice, but he sharpens it about the exact same way I sharpen an axe. No big deal at all.

Great book for the shop library and there is, or was, an accompanying video out for those of us who are somewhat reading challenged!  It was one of the many educational videos produced by Hidecrafters while they were at their high point and goes well with the book.  It covers many of the most common tools from the book but not quite everything, nor would one expect any video to be that complete.  Not sure of the ordering status for this sooo?

rickk - it is a great book!  I keep it on the shelf over my bench and even though I've read through it a number of times, I often pull it out for reference.  Well worth the price of it for sure!   :)
