Help with Screws ;-)

Can any pards tell me what these 2 small screws do???



I`m  in the process of slicking up my newly acquired Baikal and I`m using Marauders/HDs info for reference only thing is that these screws are not mentioned in the take down, So any pards know what they do BEFORE I peek!!

Kind of a deep shadow, but it looks like they are retaining the pins that are holding the cocking levers in.

Since I took the piccie I have removed one of the screws `n nothin flew `cross the room so I reckon it aint holdin anything back.

They may also be for going from extractor to ejector. I have a Rem. Spartan over and under that has similar screws to allow either mode of operation.

They work by turning 90 degrees.

It's even more fun at my house. I have one of those painted garage floors with the speckled chips in the paint. Dropping screws  becomes a real Easter egg hunt.

Well pards, I have now striipped her to the bone!!!

And as far as I can see those 2 srews do Sweet Fanny Adams!!!

Also pards on Bounty Hunter `n Howdy Doodys  `how to` regardin the Baikal they suggest that one contacts Papa Dave regarding his cocking lever mods. I have tried to e-mule him at   <papadave17266@att.net> but aint had a reply 

So do any pards know where how I can contact him `n also is there reduced power  springs available like fer the Stevens.

Any help here regardin tuning this baby is mucho appreciated, as you know here in the UK spares fer smokepoles are like rocking horse do dos!!

My 10 year old Baikal has those screws.  Dunno why they are there either.  Coyote Cap did an action job on mine.  That was before Papa Dave came out with the cocking levers, so Cap shaved down the stock ones.  I don't think he lightened the cocking springs, didn't seem to need it.

Ah My Dear Paladin -

One should never remove fasteners of which one is unsure of the fastening thereof.

sometime in the middle of the night, at the same time as you were finagling with your Baikal,  a large glowing  crack appeared in the sky, over Founder's Ranch, apparently a rift in the space-time continuum. After consulting with Norad and Sandia Labs, it appears precipitated by some force originating in the UK.

One has already replaced the screws, one only took them out to inspect what their function in life might have been, upon deeming that they did as I afore mentioned one replaced them therein

I'm not sure if he took any off the hammer springs.  I think it is easier to open as well as staying more open with the shaved cocking levers.  Before shaving the cocking levers was done, folks were lightening the springs but some had light strikes as a result.  The opening lever spring was lightened.  Don't know about Papa Dave.

Might try Brownells for reduced power spring kits. I got one there years ago for my Stevens 311.

You think that's fun, try dropping a screw or spring in a machine shop. There are thousands of little spiral pieces of metal on the floor. Even if I swept the floor daily it would not do any good.

I had a good butchers through Brownalls but alas could not see any springs for the Baikal   

I found Papa Daves e-mule...  papadave@bellsouth.n​et   BUT unfortunatly it is no longer active!!   
I`d really `preciate it iffn any pard knew his current e-mule addie. From what I can see his fix seems to be the best.

I hope you used a genrous application of Loc-Tite on them two mystry screws when you replaced them.
