Having been an auto-bodyman startin' in the late 70's and been around a bit, includin' GM dealerships I can tell you the quaility of GM vehicles in the 70's depended on how the labor negotiations were going the day of assembly of yer vehicle.  Some things I've seen border of deliberate sabatoge.  (If I'm found with cement overshoes in a river don't be surprised.)

Then the Japanese scared the poop out of them and both sides pulled their heads out of the areses and realized they both had a lot to loose.

(Things like pop bottles in frame rails and empty potato chip bags causing rust don't happen by accident.)   I am sure there was much more that was harder to detect.

Oh yeah, I remember that jacket!  It was real shiny if I remember.  You gave it up for the leather jacket with all the zippers!

Same color as the car: Aegean Blue.  It was gorgeous.

An' you got it bass ackward.  The leather jacket was first.  I gave it to a friend when I went to 'Nam.  Bought the car almost 1 1/2 years later when I got home.

Nooo, I'm talkin' about the red one with the zippers.

The shiny red one with the zippers, the 10" eagle, globe, and anchor on the back, and the list of duty stations on the left front finally just died of old age and  lots of wear and tear.

Forty,

I hope that you will give it a decent burning with the appropiate cermony with side boys and honor guard.  A jacket like that deserves it.

Your wife has a cedar chest?  That's strange, although I have a friend who has a wooden leg. ;D
