I recently finished the proto-type for my new Kiowa hard-sole moccasin pattern.  The pattern isn't available yet, but I'm real excited about the moc.  I like the look of the hard-sole style.  This is a stepping stone to my Apache Boot pattern I intend to make.

A work in progress.

OUTSTANDING! Just the kind of low-tops I've been looking for!

Watching in anticipation.  Bought the Craft Manual of Native American Footwar a year back.  Read it cover to cover (it is small) but have yet to make a set.  LOVE the APACHE BOOTS!!   I have always liked the high top/knee high mocs, but know few tribes had males that wore them.  To my research, I have only found Apache and Commanche males wearing knee high mocs.   Definitely saving my pennies for the patterns, much nicer when a pro works out the kinks first.

Have a pair I made from a pattern genericaly called "Plains Style High top" out of buffalo brain tanned. Came out great, been wearing them for the better part of sixteen years, only problem is they are a bear to get on and off.

Very cool, Will. I see a couple more in the works, too. You'll have an impressive line-up, soon.

Thanks for the encouragement Pards!

There are always a LOT of kinks to work out with moc patterns.  Feet ain't like guns.  It's tricky makin' a holster for them feet!  I'm loolin' forward to the Apache boot pattern too.  I may never buy another pair of cowboy boots after I get this pattern done.

But today, I've got to focus on gettin' the Kiowa pattern transcribed down into an instruction booklet.  The problem is, my camera was messin' up while I was buildin' the Kiowa mocs and now I'm short photos.  I'll get it fixed but it kind'a take the wind out of a feller's sails.  Oh well, if life was easy, everybody would be livin'.

I started puttin' together the "how-to" booklet today.  It's got about 37 images in it.  The one I like best right now is a sketch I did of Little Mountain, based on Catlin's 1834 portrait.  I didn't realize till I started researchin' the Kiowa that their unique hair style was designed to keep their hair from gettin' tangled with their bowstrings.  The stuff you find out when you do a little readin'...
