Howdy all,

I will be taking delivery of a Uberti 1860 Henry replica in two weeks.  I have a mold on the way, cases, and primers.  I saw a post that mentioned using a wooden plug so the follower would not go all of the way to the receiver.  Could someone elaborate, please?  Also how do most of you hold the rifle while shooting?  Inquiring minds want to know....

Thank you,

I have a "Volcanic" Rifle that will hold 25 rounds of ammo :o
I will never carry this gun with this many cartridges in the magazine, so I use a 8" long wooden plug on top of the cartridge stack. The cartridge pusher will stop before it get back to the receiver (8 inches) this leaves me a place to put my left hand, supporting the barrel while I shoot :)

The Rifle will still hold 17 cartridges, even with this plug. :)

I don't use a plug. I grab the rifle in front of the follower. I got long arms.  ;)

Although I cannot claim to have invented the idea, here is a thread I started a few years ago describing the spacer stick I made up for my Henry. I hold my Henry with my left hand just in front of the frame. Using my spacer stick, the follower never quite reaches my hand. So I never have to do the 'Henry Hop'.

In truth, I can feel the stick slide by above my hand, but it is not enough that it stops the spring from feeding rounds. I also filed down the 'stop' on the stick a little bit more than in the photos, so it does not catch against my hand as it goes by.

That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

DJ,

Thank you so much for posting the thread.  The pictures really make it simple to understand.

I believe I have a 1/2" dowel in the garage!  I will be out of town for a week, so I can't wait to get started on it when I get back.

Thanks again,

Panhead Pete
