A rig for Chief Rick

Here is a rig that I took waay too long making. I ended up making 6 holsters, instead of the 3 required, all because I didnt like the flower center the first time. He wanted a set of 3 holsters, 1 being a cross draw.

Its also my first money belt using veg tan. I learned not to try to tool a money belt.

The color on the belt came out kind of wrong to begin with, but ended up looking pretty nice. I have the belt back with me now for a minor size adjustment, so I will have to take the ends apart and rebillet the thing. I should be pretty well practiced at money belts before I am done with this project.

You did a great job... so to help out the new guys (like me) why do you not tool a money belt? Is it that after you fold the leather border tooling does not line up, or were you tooling after it was folded and two layers was too soft to take impressions, or you were carving the face and cut though? It just nice to learn from what others find out the hard way.

Well, it might not be so much that you cant or shouldnt but more to be careful of the tools you use to carve them.

In my case, the borders were cut by the stamps somewhat, and with the flexing of the money belt, they want to peel away a little bit. The name on the back, with just a beveler is fine, but using my mulesfoot stamp was a no no.

That and the leather is thin enough that you have to be careful with how heavy handed you are with a mallet.
