Here is a real short video of today's range session testing Winchesters's 1886 Extra Light rifle for an article.

Shot B-P .45-70 just to get a feel for the rifle.

I've always hankered for one of 'em, only in the full octagon barrel with the full magazine tube.  Probably a Browning, if I can find one.

Cool lever gun BDM.

Yep, I know that was fun.  I have a Marlin 95 Cowboy that loves DD's 400 grain Big Lube and 65 grains of BP.  Makes a great Cody Dixon rifle.  I shot a clean match with it last Saturday.

Nice smoker Mike! Only wish the video was longer. What magazine is the article going to appear in?

I can't get that picture or article up no matter what I do.

I have a Uberti 1886 45/70 Carbine on order, due in April. We call the you beautys in Australia. I have a DD 390Gn mould and a Gould copy custom mould coming! This and my Trapdoor will see some action with these.
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

I have the earlier Browning version of the '86  SRC.  Much too shiny, but an excellent .45 lever gun.  I have the Gould bullet which would be my choice for hunting.  For a solid cast bullet the Lyman 457193 is my go-to bullet for .45-70s.  It is an older mould and seems to carry enough lube, and it is very accurate.  I've never tried DD's bullet but it should be just right for your new '86.

I think most folks know this link to the Lyman mold chart.  Back up to the rest of this site for a lot of other info;

 I recently acquired an 86 EL, but it's not very light.  Advertised at 7.25#, it weighs in at 8.1#. I know one must make allowances for wood density, but .85# makes for a lot of allowing.

Howdy Mike

How was the kick with that light rifle? It didn't look too bad. What weight bullet were you shooting?
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
