Hi Folks,

I'm new to your forum and got interested in Spencers after my Grandfather past and I received a Spencer Carbine. (the toy my aunts and uncle played with) I would like to restore it so as to be able to fire it once again. I have read some of the post and found parts sources but additional info would be appreciated.

I believe this carbine to be a Model 1860 but all I can read :

SPENCER REPEATING-
RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS-
PAT'D MARCx xx xxx0

I assume since I can clearly see a zero at the end it must be a 1860. I also found the SN 25146 as shown in another post.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi ByeByeGuy,

I'm sure SSS members will post their information regarding your Spencer serial #25146.  Give them a chance.

:o :o I just a had quick "look see" in my SRS books, and found YOUR EXACT serial # listed :o :o
According to my SRS book, your Spencer Carbine was issued to a member of Company I, 19th New York Volunteer Cavalry on or about October 1864.

:o :o This is only the 2nd or 3rd time I have found an exact serial # match in the 6 years I have been looking through my SRS books for SSS members and guests ;D

Designation of Regiment changed to 19th Cavalry Aug.11,1863 and to 1st Dragoons Sept.10,1863.

A very active unit throughout it's service. It was present at Appomatox Court house when Lee surrendered and participated in the Grand Review in Washington May 23,1865.Mustered out June 30,1865.

WOW! Thanks guys. I will have some pics of this carbine when I get a chance. Interesting to me are the letters C N (the N carved in reverse) on the stock. It looks, from the patina, as though they have been on the stock a long time.

Thanks again, ByeByeGuy
