Well Jack, you could always loan him that lovely (ahem) Ross you used last year . . .

NO, Chuck, I want to keep that pleasure all for myself!   ;)   ;D

(Which reminds me, I've never gotten around to investigating, and hopefully correcting, the cartridge-feeding problems I had.  I do have a "sporterized" Mk III Ross, fully functional, from which I could undoubtedly switch the magazine (or at least the "innards" for it ....)

Ahhh, you finally managed to snag one, eh?  Be sure to post pictures ASAP!

Yes, the Colt Model 1878 or Colt New Service are both suitable "issue" revolvers.  (By the way, it now seems that Canada may have acquired some of its Boer War Colt New Service revolvers chambered for .455 ....)

Of course, an officer might well have had any appropriate period revolver.  My favourite GAF revolver is now the lovely .455/.476 Webley "WS Army" model I acquired last spring -

That's one beatiful shooting iron, Jack. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of your hands and the camera in the blueing!

Yes ...... rather 'glossy', isn't it?   ;D
