New EMF Great Western II

Picked this up at a show last weekend, had to wait until to day to pick it up after our waiting period in IL.

EMF Great Western II Californian 45, with "Old Model" frame.

Sorry for the finger prints.

Can't wait to shoot it.

If it's anything like my GWII .357 I'm sure I'll be happy!

I was a little "thrown" by it at first, I had never seen and EMF or Pietta 1873 with it. The dealer told me he bought it directly from EMF at the recent Shot Show, and I sent pictures with the serial number to Becky at EMF and got this reply back.

Marstar in Canada has imported the Piettas with a BP frame for years but EMF never did, or at least until recently it looks like.

I think that the only single action Pietta is making for Cimarron with the BP frame is the one for the 10" Wyatt Earp models. All the others are the Pre-War frame, for now, anyway.

I wonder if these were made using up leftover frames from a Canadian contract???

The more I look at it, the more I really like the CCH on the frame, the colors are really nice.

The rear sight notch is REALLY narrow, which I guess is historically correct? The front sight blade virtually totally fills it up when you aim!

Looks great!!....I'd like a pair with BP frame, 7 1/2" barrel, in 44-40 combo with 44 Special cylinders.

They just added the Piettas, so now carrying both.

Abilene, I had heard that Alessandro Pietta feared being sued by Colt after the AWA "Peacekeeper" litigation so that he even removed the patent dates from the SAA clone. Is this true?

I think that is true. The way I heard it was that Colt several years ago sent letters to various importers saying they would sue if the patent dates were not removed. This raised fears in some, not others. After the first large orders Pietta is making for Cimarron, there are to be some changes made to be more authentic, but I'm not sure if adding the patent dates is one of them.

My EMF Great Western II Californian Deluxe in 357 magnum, does not have the patent dates recreated on the frame, but this "Old Model" framed 45 colt has them.

They are on the opposite side of the frame from my earlier picture, but I can take a shot of them if anyone wants to see them?

EDIT:Went ahead and took a picture.

This is one of my favorite gunz, I fitted real ivory grips on it, and Old Top always said I should buy them in pairs..I didn't so a while later I wanted to get a mate. Me and Debbie and Bob went thru all the custom nickel stock and couldnt get one with the Colt style markings...I got one without. But had a couple of emails from Alchimestia (nice guy and easy to contact) and that was basicly the reason for taking off the markings... Still a fine gun anyways...

You're right Curley, Alchemista is a very nice guy. And while I have never been a fan of some of the authenticity issues of the GW-II, I have been very impressed with how smooth they feel out of the box. I think this is probably due to the fact that Alchemista is a cowboy shooter himself.

So if Colt is so big and bad why aren't they suing Uberti? I hate to see this kind of legal blackmail and retreat going on. Colt has not held the patent for the Single Action Army in over 100 years. This is one reason why I do not buy new Colt products from the last 15 years or so.

They can't sue over the mere patent dates usage no more than I could over someone else using my birthday. That's why Uberti & USFA still apply them. Colt sued AWA over their usage of the word "Peacekeeper" on their guns.

In my emails with Alchimestia, I got the impression he didn't want to take any chances. If they invest a lot of money and time and then Colt did sue and win, he would have a lot of guns that he couldn't sell. My impression of Alchimestia was that he and his family are very savy and don't loose much money..

He is a very easy person to talk to, and later he even sent me and Old Top 2 sets of screws to finish Tops "homemade" Alchimesta (Top spent 2 years getting Pietta 1860 grips to go with his GW2 to make basicly an Alchimesta before they even hit the market...)

Old tops "home made" Alchimesta (altho it doesn't have the super smooth action job and the wide centered trigger which is really cool...)
