How correct are all-leather suspenders? I made a set several years ago, so, I was just curious.

I would have no qualms with them being period correct as leather was plentiful then & relatively cheap. Of course, I'd want a lot of holes for when I was "circumferentially challenged".  ;D :D ;)

I'll check later and see if I've saved any pictures in my files.  I've seen them in pictures, but it might be before I was really building up my refeance files.

Kid, I am a bit challenged already! Thanks Del. Oh, BTW Del, the hat remark isn't aimed at you!

You know in 71 years of collecting and doing research, the one thing I have learned is  NEVER say NEVER.   :-[  ;D  Someone will ALWAYS find something to put a crimp in the statement. I am curious too.

A few years ago a friend of mine discovered a letter to the commander of Fort Osage (1812ish) stating that the Ordinance Dept. would not send any more musket slings as the men just made susspenders out of them.

Hey Steel Horse Baily

I have seen several other leather suspenders during the years of collection old west gear. These style was very commen during the 1890 till 1915 and made by several companys.

I did some other styles as well, see pics. Some models are made with elastic on the back. Elastic band was used since the civil war...

Thanks and have a great Christmas time

Hey Steel Horse Bailey
This pair is gone, but I will make anotherone for you... no problem. The leather straps are calf lined and the small bottom straps are swinging(??? do not know hwo to tell:-))) Sorry)
You might have them in brown or black.
Just need your measurments,. and several weeks to fix them. I will be at Phoeniy AZ, end of January and can mail them to you from the US, so you might save some shipping... If you like to have a pair, please send your measurments as soon as possible, because the suspenders are handsewn and that needs his time to do:-))

Whish you and your family an merry christmas and a happy new year
