Leather Finish

I make leather duck straps for hunters. I like the neetsfoot oil as opposed to lexol for my final finish. For some reason the lexol conditioner left a grayish color on the strap. It did go away when I buffed it but the lexol left a totally different color finish than the neetsfoot oil when I dyed two pieces with the same dye. Any thoughts here?

I use Lexoil after dyeing, to soften and condition the leather, not as a finish, I usually let it dry over night or at least a few hours before applying either Neatsfoof oil or Evoo, ( Extra Virgin Olive oil ), then you can just leave it that way, or apply a finish that is suitable over oil, I like Bag-Kote, ( softer satin look ) or Tan-Kote ( a little more gloss ), with all my work I apply Skidmores Leather Cream as the last thing applied. This is what works for me, and is my opinion, there will be others that have their way also, just a note all of these steps after the Lexoil, will darken and give depth to your leather.

Thanks TW, so you are saying I can use the lexol first then apply the neetsfoot oil or other finish after the lexol. These duck straps are exposed to some wet weather.

Lexoil is not a finish, it's a conditioner, and yes you can use oil and other things over it as I pointed out in my first post, skidmores leather cream is also a conditioner ,but also a protector too, you can give your leather three or four coats of Skidmores leather cream for added protection, Montana Pitch Blend also makes a great product for caring for leather.

Your not limited to just one method of doing this, the one I pointed out is what I do and use, here is a couple links

Guys, I've noticed no one has mentioned Mink Oil. Does anyone use mink oil?
