Does anyone have any experience with Seiko leather sewing machine? I am looking at a CH-2 cylinder arm machine and thinking about purchasing one.

Howdy All,

I am not that familiar with this brand but after doing a websearch on it...the C2 appears to be very close in design with the Juki 441, with the exception that a few components are front mounted on the machine face.  Question is...what is the price of this unit with a stand and accessories  (including different presser feet) and of course shipping. Before making the decision to buy this machine you should go and look at what the others offer...Durkoff-Adler,  Juki 441, Artisan 4000 series, Cobra series 4 and of course the Ferdco Pro-2000 (with the exception of the Adler these are all mostly variations of the Juki 441).  Shop before you purchase....also keep in mind the word SERVICE....I know Steve at Cobra, and Ron at Ferdco both give excellent service.  Another thing to look at is what other accessories fo each of these suppliers offer?

I've been shopping a while and have heard so many great things about Steve and his service that went with him and I'm waiting on my new Cobra 4 from him now.

Now that I decided to bite the bullet I can't wait to get it. I still will be hand stitching my period stuff but modern style knife sheaths and holsters will go so much quicker.

Someday I hope to have a machine that I can sew with linen thread, that would make money belts so much easier.

I bought my TORO from Artisan when Steve was working there and dealt with him many times on the phone.  I recently talked with him again concerning parts interchangeability between the TORO and his new machines.  Some of the parts do seem to be very close.  Juki must have been doing something right to have so many companies copying their line.  It is amazing that I have, as yet, been unable to break mine and I am a very heavy handed clutze!    :-[

outrider

Cliff,

That machine is a good design..it's been around for quite awhile but several companies have picked up on the and made enhancement changes that make the design work even better.

Slowhand....your correct  Steve has even helped me out with my Ferdco Pro-2000....that what I was saying in my other post...SERVICE

But the way if either of you gus our in the Chattanooga area...give me a jingle

Thanks for the info Outrider, the Seiko CH-2 is one year old and the total with shipping is $1700.

Are you buying this machine from a private individual or a dealer???  Also,  what accessories are available with it? What type of motor (clutch type or DC Servo)?  What was it used for previously?  What needle system? (hopefully it is a 794 system)

Well, I am looking at this machine from a Craigslist add. I am buying from an individual but they are going through a company called Cooperative-Yardsales as an agent. Has anyone heard of this? But the machine is a DC Servo motor controlled and I have pictures of the machine that they sent me. If you like I can send the pictures. I don't know any more than that.

outrider

OK   in my opinion...and this is my opinion only...I would steer clear of a used machine off of Craigslist..unless the seller would guarantee that the machine was fully operational and in good condition.   Remember  if you buy this...you are stuck with it if there is any kind of problem.
I wouldtake another route....save up your pennies and buy something with a warranty...and as I said earlier...SERVICE.  I am quite sure Steve at Cobra could set you up with a decent machine that will do the job you intend to do... and he stands behind them.......Adler and Ferdco are also excellant but they are pricy machines...

outrider

While I'm not sewing machine expert I have to agree with outriders opinion.

I look at a sewing machine like any other machine I own and since I'm in the excavation business I've owned a bunch of machines and trucks over the years.

I try and steer clear of a used one that either I or someone else I know knows the history of that machine. The exceptions are if it's a good enough deal and I know enough about that type of machine and can look at it, evaluate it's condition and/or can troubleshoot and fix whatever turns out to be wrong with it.

Since I don't know a darn thing about sewing machines I have waited until I could swing for a new one from someone that has the reputation of standing behind the products he sells.

Well Outrider, I did nix the deal on craigslist. The add was represented as a Houston add and the it turns out the seller and machine are in Oklahoma. I did contact Steve and will call him. I have been talking to a dealer here in Houston and he is going to show me a new Sewpro Mini 441. I just don't want to put out them big bucks yet. I am also talking to a custom boot maker here in town that says he has some at his warehouse he will show me. The main thing is they have to sew through 1/2" thick piece of leather and at a slow rate. I have been doing this search for over a month now. But I'm in no hurry.

If you are in the Houston area give me a call and you can take a look at the machine I bought from Steve.  It is an Artisan 3000 on a new stand with a new Servo motor and speed reducer. It goes VERY slow.  I can't say enough good about Steve.  I also just got a Pfaff 545 from him.  My main man will wheel and deal with you to get you the machine you need.
