Wolfgang,
Thank you so much for the link to the photo of your loading bench. Now I truly feel I am in good company. My benches may look like a complete mess but I know where everything is. Thank you for showing me that I am not alone.

I'd posted pictures of the complete tear down of the original '73.   Nate Jones had said my bench was too neat, . . . so I posted a picture of the "messy bench"  :)   The loading benches themselves are pretty neat and organized.  http://www.drburkholter.com/cf16.html   :)
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

I'd like to see some documentation on that, Noz.  On the other hand I've been a Mormon for 69 years and have yet to see any convincing evidence that the Danites even existed.  Rockwell is said to have claimed that some of the men came up with the story and spread it around among the "gentiles", and that the fear of the story did as much as an actual group could have done.  Every death in the Rocky Mountains was blamed on the Danites for years.

On the other hand, his bobbed '60 exists and is documented.

On yet another hand, so have several other bobbed six-guns from that era.

On one more hand, I don't see why anyone would have gone to the trouble of having Colt make up pistols on special order...undoubtedly at extra cost...when the guns could have been simply cut off locally in less than an hour...a bit more for dovetailed sights and the rammer.  I did one thirty years ago with a tubing cutter, a 45 degree counter sink drill and some files, and it worked out beautifully.

This thread shows it can be done

Here is my In-depth research, wikipedia via google, I looked at other hits but the factual content seemed similar;

I tend to agree with 4T-rod, I would think that the war supplied most of the available '60s in full military length.  With a plentiful supply after that, the obvious course of action would be local alteration.  Pocket pistols were logically offered by the factory in various lengths to the public.

Here's mine, I call it "Short Mort",

The barrel was cut to five inches and a front sight added before I got it.  The first shot sent the front sight into orbit, never to be found, if you think using the original sights is tricky, try it with no front sight!  I have since dovetailed a new front sight in place and it works fine.  I don't think this will ever be mistaken for a carry piece but the lever does not drop and the lack of barrel seems to allow for better balance.  Practicing with Short Mort sure makes shooting my cut down 1860 seem much quicker!  Next up for SHort Mort will be a new set of grips from elk antler.

SHORT MORT is likely a better name than "The Avenging Troll"! ;D

Same as mine - 5" barrel.  That seems to be a good length from both a balance and asthetic perspective.  You have good taste Strawhat!  ;D

How about Robert Walker?   (Bit of a pun! - "bobbed?)

If I have to explain it, its probably not that good.

Thank you, it came to me that way and I intended to sleeve a 45 caliber barrel in place to return it to the 9" length.  However, the more I handled and shot it, the better I liked it.  It will never be a pocket pistol but it is a lot of fun and gets more than a few double takes.

These are (obviously!) photoshopped pictures by me of an original Walker.  I thought I would see how one would look "cut down", as well as what it might look like as a cartridge conversion. (These are non-copyrighted photos).

Hope you all enjoy them!

Here's the pic of mine that I cut back in 2009.

Heres the link over at the Storm forumhttp://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,27974.0.html

I opted to use the full length lever to load, but modified it to be quick detach.

It does make it a very nice balanced weapon. Think of a heavy SAA in feel. I shot our State match with it last year, and will probably shoot it at Hell On Wheels this year. Lots of fun and booms very nice with 45 gr. Good fireballs too. ;)

Nice job on yours.

Dalton, that's one good-looking Walker!  I have to make one of those to use!

I have a couple of manufacturer "Bobbed" BP revolvers namely a 5 1'2" Remington '58 and a  5 1/2" '62 Navy, both done by Piettia and the handling is superb! I also own the "origonal" length  guns to compare them to and really prefer the shorter barrels.
Loosing a little barrel might reduce the velocity a bit but the exchange in pointability and draw sure made up for it! The only drawback to the shorter barrels is the regulation of the sights.
I had to mod my 58's front sight a bit to get it to hit POA and the Navy is just going to have to have a hammer mod to get it near centered at close range. I think a dovetailed-in front sight is the best way to go with the Colts design.
My Gosh, the big Walker looks GOOD!
I bet it's a real flamethrower! If you miss, you just set em afire to kill em!
NICE work guys!
