I picked up a Uberti Cattleman new model in 45LC today from Bud's. Now I didn't shot it as it was a brand new gun and I like to clean, and lube them first. Well my problem is I can't get the cylinder pin to come out. I can get it to move about a 1/4" but that is it. Now I followed their instruction is cock to load and open the loading piece. Any suggestions on removing this?

I have a feeling the gun has been in their warehouse for some time followed by a couple of months behind the counter so the factory grease could of dried a bit. So far I sprayed it with break free with gun scrubber next.

Howdy Joe,
Well, let me offer a few suggestions.  Is the gun on half-cock when you try to remove the base pin?  Have you tried pushing it all the way in (safety position) and then back out?  Sometimes that will help free it up a bit. Try removing the basepin latch parts (screw and spring from the left side, "nut" from the right side), sometimes that helps.   Brownells sells a tool that helps to pull sticky base pins but that won't help you right now.  Someone else might chime in with an idea for a common "tool" that can be found around the house to help pull it.  If you try prying it out with a screwdriver or such you risk marring parts.  I have heard of someone wrapping some electrical tape around the jaws of a pair of needlenose pliiars and using that.  Worst case is you will need to disassemble the gun to remove the hammer and tap it out from the rear with a brass punch.  This is not difficult if you have the right screwdriver and kinow the sequence.  If not, does "Bud's" have a gunsmith?  If so he could do this and you could watch.  Often there is a burr in the groove area of the basepin that causes it too stick.  If so, this will need to be smoothed out.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

Actually I did all of that but no luck at all. The needle nose with tape over the pin wouldn't budge it other than from the fire position and locked position which it did to start. Oh and this was done with the whole basepin parts removed from the gun. Tomorrow I will tear it down and try tapping it out from the back with a punch. They gun is working fine as far as cycling, and hitting snap caps just fine. So I'm beginning to think a burr or a piece of machined metal in the channel. As I said it does move from the fire position to the hammer stop position just stops there.

Thanks for the attempt though.

You have it.  If its really stuck you can knock it out from the rear.  Before taking it all the way apart, cock the hammer and see if you can get a brass rod in there far enough to loosen the base pin from the rear.

Thanks PT and I tried that also earlier. It seems if I had a rod that had a bend in it but with it straight it won't even budge it. I think tomorrow I will just take out the hammer and go at it from there.
