Anyone else ever want to quietly ditch something you tried to make?

I've got a holster cut out laying in the leather room now from the last order where I had to start over after I started laying out the stamping. I'm trying to figure out how I can put a design on it so it looks like I did it on purpose :P Likely it will be cut up for welts, toe plugs, etc. ::)

Hmmm, after thinking about it I had to start over on a holster for the last two orders ??? Luckily both were early in the game so not much time wasted.

That is where I am at with my first holster ... There have been so many mistakes that I have worked around, I am naming the holster "Comedy of Errors".  Hope to finish it this next week and get a picture or two of it to post. It is beyond the "advice" to improve stage and now falls into the "Give a good Laugh" stage.  :D

I think there is at least one "plus" to my "screw ups" in the "cutting out stage" - well maybe two?  First, I usually learn a new swear word or two.   ;D  Second, if the screw up is in the cutting out, I put it on the shelf and sooner or later someone will come along that wants a holster made for a smaller pistol that the screw up will work for.  If not, you can always make 'em into key chains for the relatives for Christmas!?   ;D  You can never have enough key chains - they're sort of like "zucinni squash" - when you have an abundance of 'em - just unload 'em on your neighbors and friends . . . . wait a minute!  Maybe that's why nobody speaks to me anymore?   ;D

Thanks to ChuckBurrows for the hint and the answer on the alcohol - next holster I'm going to experiment with that.   :)

::) ::) I have a bunch of Left Hand Holsters laying around :-[ For some stupid reason I tend to cut out 2 LH holsters out instead of 1 RH & 1 LH. Plus I shoot with alot of shooters that use my leather and I look at some of the stuff I made 4-5 years ago and cringe at how it looks! Try to get them to let me make them something new but so far they wont, say it still works fine so they don't need new leather.

I've accidentally cut out a left hand holster or sheath. I don't anymore but made that mistake a couple times years ago. I went ahead and finished the holsters and sold them. I like to have a couple or three left hand ones at shows for the lefty's anyway.

Left hand . . left hand . . . grrrrrrrr.  I'll relate this tale.  This past Christmas time, a gal down the street wanted me to make a holster for her boyfriend who just got a new semi-auto.  He's a pilot so he's gone for several weeks at a time with the company he works for.  I borrowed the pistol and worked long and hard to have it done so I could return the pistol before he got home before Christmas and be none the wiser and she could surprise him with a new holster.  She and I pulled it off and I have to say that I was really proud of the holster.  Christmas Eve, we had several couples over for dinner including them but she had to work late (she's a nurse) so she wasn't there right away.  In the course of conversation at the table, we somehow got on the subject of "lefties" and low and behold, her boyfriend proudly proclaimed that he was a "leftie".  I felt the color drain out of my face.  Like and idiot, I never asked our galfriend if he was left or right handed - I just "ASSUMED" and we all know what that spells.  I got her off to one side when she finally arrived and said to her, "You never told me he was left handed".  She innocently asked, "Does that matter?".  Needless to say, he now has a right hand and LEFT HAND holster.  I've had some good laughs over it as if nothing else, it reminded me again to never "assume" anything.  He felt bad about it . . I just chuckled and told him to go buy another pistol and he could carry one on each hip.  I've caught myself many times having the pattern flipped to the wrong side - have never cut one out the wrong way but it has been close . . very close!   :o

reagrding the use of alcohol - I DO NOT use it for casing the leather, only to clean it prior to casing and then after being fully constructed only for stretching if need be.....

I come from a family of height challenged people as well.  One of my Uncles had to move out of San Franciso because the curbs were so high, he kept wearing out the seat of his pants.
