Three times in a year my friends and i were shooting in Denmark with our Sharps Rifles from 300m - 600m.
This year i will take my Henry Rifle and try to hit at ranges from 200m - 600m.
Can't wait for May. Hope the weather is much better than last year. We had sidewind ca. 60 f/s and rain for three days.
One of the best Shooting-ranges i know.
Ulfborg, Denmark.

The 600m range

What is the greatest distance you have shoot your Henry and HIT ?
;)

great pictures. the furtherest shot i  made with my henry and hit was at 200 yards at a 5 gallon bucket. it took a magazine full before i managed to hit the bucket. the bullet actually richoeted off the ground and hit the bucket, but i'm claiming it as a hit ;D.
i have since got my henry settled on a good load and it shoots good groups, i would like to shoot it again at that distance and see if i can hit it any better

if it walks, crawls, slithers or leaves a track i can tan it

I wonder how far the shot was that Gus made in Lonesome Dove.    ;D

I have a quarter mile plow disk (22") that we shoot the big bores at.  It's fun to shoot the henry and 66 at it, suprising how many times you can ring it once you have the range.  All are pretty darn close though.  Gus had his ladder sight set about where mine are for that range.

The west is the best, get here and we'll do the rest.

Fox Creek Kid

Amazing how the man between the two target was not hit.  :o ;D :D ;)

Nice range.  Reminds me of the ranges at Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria.

I haven't tried to shoot my henry past 100yds yet. I have managed to hit a 1gal milk jug 4 out of 10 shots. I am not even going to try and shoot at 200m, (218yds) i'd just be wasting ammo. That is a really impressive range,Being as misinformed as i am, i thought the Europeans were really down on guns and gun ownership. But after looking at the quality of their shooting ranges i can see the shooting hobby is alive and well over there!

Shotgun Franklin

It's a shame there aren't more places to shoot long range.  I have a Marlin .38-55 that I'd like to try at longer ranges.

I get to shoot my transition Henry (66) at the Whittington Center every June and usually spend more time at the sighting -in range than anywhere else with it. They have sillhouette targets at 300 yds (mule deer), 400 (bear), 500 (I forget) and an antelope at 600 yds. After 3 years, I can consistently hit all of them with 44-40 and open sights. The trick is to use the reflection of the front blade on the barrel as a sighting point and practice, practice, practice, and then practice a lot more. No wind helps out tremendously.

Montana Slim

Improved Henry, 440 yds (a friend later lazed the target), 36" diameter circular plate. Took a few rounds to get it right...then was no problem hitting until after reloading...then the head needs to achieve correct realignment. I'm using the ladder sight.
best game shot was on a varmint at the family famy years ago, same rilfle, one shot @ 175 yds (estimated)

Henry,
Nice looking range!

I have not a Henry but still a .44-40 - a '73 Winchester with a tang sight.

Bullet: 427098
Distance:  500 meters
Target: Steel ram (High Power Rifle SIlhouette)
Target size: 13" high x 32" long

Shots fired after sighting in: 10
Hits: 4

There was a bit of wind coming from 9 o'clock and there were several close misses just to the right but the elevation held up well.

I have thrown a few .44-40's at Homer (white target upper left) the 1,000 yard buffalo but I need a taller tang sight to get the right elevation.

Henry,
Check out these long distance targets fired with the original 44 Henry cartridge way back in 1866.
