Howdy,
I would like to shoot a Colt Lightning Revolver in CAS events but understand that the internals won't stand up
to this type of use.  Has anyone ever tried to modify the internals with parts from a later double action?  What donor
gun would have similar sized parts?

None.

If there were compatible parts - they'd've used them to fix Lightnings for decades.

The Colt 1877 bears no resemblance internally to any other double action I have ever seen.  Biggest difference and biggest problem with the 77 is that the locking bolt enters the cylinder from the rear rather than the side as on almost every other revolver, double or single action.

Howdy,
Thanks for the responses.  I guess this is not a good idea.

Nope...

If you find one - in good shape - you can shoot it a little, but you can't think of competing with it, unless you have spares and the ability to fit them yourself, since most 'smiths won't.

If you want a period double-action to shoot - look at the old S&Ws.

They're relatively plentiful, were built stronger, and there are both 'some' parts out there and folks who'll work on them, as well.

Good Luck.
