Yeah, we's a waitin' on you, Slim. Figured we'd give ya first shot..........Buck 8) ::) :o ;)
I have no clue.  :-[ And Mr. Google didn't help either.  >:(

Slim

You already had a clue - his nickname :D.

Here's another clue.  His father was fairly well known in earlier Texas events, and many of his family were  involved in a famous Texas feud.

Nope, never heard of it. My Texas history is lacking. :-[  I must confess. Mr Google helped me, but it took him awhile to find it.

Us Taylors always go down fightin'...one thing or another.
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Doboy's dad was Creed Taylor.  Considerable info on him is on the net and in printed hard copy references.  He had a very long and eventful life (unlike his son).  Worth some research for anyone interested in Texas history.

Capt. Hamp Cox

As ___?___ told the story later on, he was awakened when a bullet tore into the roof right under his stomach. In a split second he had raised his Winchester and fired at Garrett, intending to hit him in the head. Pat ducked so fast that ___?___ supposed he had been shot down. Everybody in the posse but Kearney continued to stand up and fight until both ___?___ and Gilliland hit him and he fell to the ground. Groaning, he was dragged into the wagon shed with the rest.

It had been a lively two minutes. The possemen remember that ___?___ laughed as he fought. Now, suddenly, everything was terribly quiet. In a minute ___?___ called down, "You are a hell of a lot of (sons of unwed parents) to shoot a man when he is asleep."

Guess it's a good thing you don't let a lot of unnecessary stuff clutter up your mind, 'cause that's the right answer.  Just think if two names came to mind and you picked the wrong one  ;D.  Nice goin', Russ T.

Capt. Hamp Cox

Need the names of both participants (___?___ and ___??___).  Since this is not an easy one, here's a hint - the event in question happened in El Paso in the Gem Saloon.

"This account claims that ___?___ had tried to provoke Wyatt into a fight, which he declined. ___?___ then started to insult a man standing at the bar sporting a white hat. ___?___'s taunts ceased when the man known as ___??___ (nick named "Cowboy Bob") assured him that he was unarmed. Disgusted, ___?___ left the bar, leaving ___??___ fuming. His reputation had been insulted and he determined to get even. He walked across to the faro dealer and asked to borrow a pistol, stating that he would not be imposed on. The dealer shook his head: 'Have no trouble – go on out.' Ignoring him, ___??___ reached into the drawer and grabbed the dealer's pistol.

"It was just as well for him that he did, for the door burst open and ___?___ rushed in, firing wildly. ___??___, with remarkable coolness, dropped to one knee, cocked the pistol, and holding it firmly in both hands, opened fire, cocked and fired again, hitting ___?___ first in the shoulder and then in his stomach. ___?___, dazed and numbed by the shock of the heavy lead slugs, continued to shoot, ruining a billiard table with his final shots, before turning away and staggering into the street where he clambered on to a passing street car and collapsed across a seat. Passengers heard him mumble that his mother should be informed that he had 'died game'."

"The gunmen snickered, so Carson and ___?___ came charging through the saloon door a half hour later and that's when the lights went out. Carson was dead almost before he could swear. Tom Henry shot him in both arms, and the rest of the gang riddled him with bullets.
"The gunmen unfortunately concentrated on the wrong man. ___?___'s guns were booming too. He instantly killed "Big" Randall, shot West twice through the body, and put a bullet through Henry's leg. In the confusion, Henry and John Dorsey, who were unscathed, escaped out the back door. When the lights came back on, ___?___, also unscathed, sent Randall's remains to the cemetery, and West to jail. A doctor wanted West hospitalized, but ___?___ ignored him."

Dang it, Russ T., you're alway right.  Don't that get a bit exhausting after a while?  You shore 'nuff do some good work. ;D ;)

"...When the distance had been chopped to 150 yards, Cook opened up with the .45-90 and held them off.

"___?___ and his possemen heard the firing from a long distance, and knowing full well that the outlaws had been cornered, turned and galloped toward the sound of the shooting. ___?___, an old hand at border skirmishing, came in on the battle off the left flank. He pulled the horses down at a couple of hundred yards, dropped to the ground, and commenced a bold advance without any heed for cover or the bullets which splashed the rocks about him. Jake Combs who was at ___?___'s shoulder got an earlobe shot away. Jubal Friar, one of the outlaws, rose up behind a rock and triggered off two quick shots at the advancing ___?___. Thalis Cook shot him in the head with the big Winchester.

"The pair of outlaws ran up the mountain, attempting to reach their hobbled horses. Ease Bixler got to a horse, cut the hobbles, and bareback rode out of the fight. Art Friar, brother of the man just killed by Cook, threw up his hands. "I quit," he yelled, "don't shoot no more."

"___?___ and Cook closed in on him. When he did not put up his hands at the command, the lawmen separated and moved in at a trot. When at a distance of thirty feet, Art Friar suddenly whipped his hand around behind his back and drew a six-shooter he had rammed into the pants belt. Both ___?___ and Cook fired and both hit him. He was killed instantly. The third rustler was picked up two days later trying to steal a saddle.

"The dead outlaws were roped on their own horses and hauled out to Alpine. The arrest warrant, issued by Judge Van Sickle of Alpine, had somehow gotten saturated with blood. It was returned to the good judge in that condition. Mute evidence that it had been served."

The previous ___?___ was "The Border Boss", Captain John Hughes.

Here's a new one to test your memory/skill ;D.

"___?___, marshal of Newton, formerly a stage driver between that point and Wichita, was shot three times, on Sunday night last, in an attempt to arrest a couple of Texas men. As near as we can get at the facts, the Texas men were on a spree, and, as a consequence, making it hot for pedestrians. ___?___ had run them out of the town, when they turned and fired three shots into him, with what effect may be judged, from the fact that he continued his pursuit for ten miles before he returned to have his wounds dressed, shot passed through his right breast, and the other two were in his limbs. We learn from a driver here that he will recover. ___?___ has sand enough to best the hour-glass that tries to run him out."
