Hey guys,
How long ago did Uberti change the rear sights from the tall ladder sights to the buckhorn?  I still see pictures of the rifle with tall ladder sights advertised even though you can't order them that way.

i don't know but when i got my '66 i ordered a henry rear site to go on it. it sets further up the barrel than on a henry but works ok.

How long ago was that Buckskin Billy?  Could you post any pictures?  I've thought about doing that too, or even cutting a new dove tail in the same location as the henry.

i got the gun in june of 2008 and bought the site shortly after that. i got the site from dixie gun works.
i also got a henry replacement front site to go with it, but it was much too thin to see, and i still have 20/20 vision, so i left the original model 66 front site on the gun.
i have no pictures of the gun  with that site at this time, but heres a link to dixie  for the site

Buckskin Billy, do you think the guns is just as accurate with the ladder sight setting where it is?  Maybe I'll just do that too.  I checked out the link to Dixe gun works, but there wasn't a picture of the sight.  Only an explaination of it.

howdy newt,
i just took some pictures of my m66 with the henry site

my only complaint is that the site sets too far forward compared to a henry.other than that its ok. i have been toting my henry rifle around for 16 years so i'm use to that kind of site. it is easier for me to find the front site with the henry ladder site compared to the buckhorn rear site, that comes on most new model 66.
as far as shooting it does great for cas shooting distances, but for hunting it shoots too low.so i had to file down the front site just a little to bring it to point of impact.
the dixie gun work link didn't have a picture when i went on it just a discription.
i hope this helps

one more thing newt, the ladder site i replaced on my m66 fit in the dove tail a little lose. i had to shim it some to make it fit tight. i used a old drivers license.
when i settle on a load i'll probadly  fill the dove tail in with perminate lock tite and take a chisle punch to the dove tail to tighten it up more

Howdy Buckskin Billy,
Thanks for the picture!!  It really looks pretty good.  I've got a henry too and really like the ladder sight and the look of it on the gun.

I've used a center punch to raise dimples inside the dovetail prior to sliding the sight in. Also have tapped the top edges down a bit with a plastic mallet prior to installing the sight. Just a couple extra ideas.
