Several years ago, I bought a C96 for $125, no number matched, so it is not a collectible, the gun shop owner told me that it was a shooter. It is so shot out, it is not. Cartridge neck expands to .360, insufficient pressure to open the bolt. Sent it off today to get it relined for $175.00.

Will let you know how it works out.

Who is doing the reline for you?

I take it the pistol is a 9mm.....

Don't shoot ammo designed for the Tokerav. It is almost identical in size but is loaded for machine guns! Way too hot!

Hi, Dusty!
I've never had one, but from what I've read you will probably want to replace all the springs, too.  (I'll have to admit I've always regretted not buying one of those when it was cheap.)
"There go those Nebraskans, and all hell couldn't stop them!"

Dusty Tagalon

Yes, I understand, don't use Tokerav. The biggest problem is will it function if I download to beneath 1000 fps. First try factory 7.63x25 to ensure function before I start attempting to download.

Dusty

pony express

Maybe you can get it to work below 1000fps by going heavier on the bullet weight?

Dusty Tagalon

The relining looks great, Niederlander was correct, ordering springs today.

i reload for my broomhandle, what i do is pull the bullets on the 30 mauser seller and belot ammo. reload with 6.5 grains unique powder reset the bullet. i have been using that load for all my c-96( i have 8)pistols. they work fine but not enough force to damage anything. kurt250

Dusty Tagalon

Kurt, Is the Speller & Belot factory too powerful of load for the C96?
I have now replaced the extractor & am ready for the next function test.
For function, I am only loading 1 round at a time, see if the spent cartridge is ejected & bolt locked open.

Brian

Dusty Tagalon

Initially, didn't seem functional. Put a single round in & fired, action didn't fully cycle. After running 10 factory ammo, it was starting to function. My reloads using 115 grain bullets, & 2.5 grains Trail Boss was starting to function also. I am hoping the more I shoot, the better it will function.
The Trail Boss reload is based upon a 32/20 load, should be beneath 1000 fps. Will chronograph when it warms up a little.

dusty, yes s&b are too hot. if you reeled them with 6.5 grains of unique. years ago navy arms had sales of s&b ammo. its all i shoot in my brooms. the rcbs collet bullet puller works fine. just remove the bullet, dump the powder. reload with 6.5 grains unique, put the old pulled bullet back seat and crimp.i just shoot them and leave the brass. kurt250

Dusty, I am glad that the C96 project is going well. I would like to purchase a reasonbly priced C96 for a project myself.

Well, I got the winning bid on the 96. I have to get the paperwork for the FFL and the M O in the mail this week. It's not very pretty and it has had some scrapes and scratches.

lawdog, when you get your c-96 check your bolt stop. thats a part that if it fails it can cause the firing pin to fly out of the gun. the hammer will stop it but you may damage it. lube them before shooting and don't use any seller and bolot ammo. it to hot. load it down. 6.5 grains of unique works great.c-96 take a little getting use too, but work fine. be carful with the grip. hold the pistol low on the handle. the hammer can sometimes bit you if you hold on to the grip to high.if any questions p.m. me. kurt250
