Vintagearms,

When talking to Albert Buckingham(see post#1) some time ago, he said he had set trigger parts for 76 Winchesters, might be worth a call. I do remember they were EXPENSIVE!
Interesting project, keep us posted.
Good luck,
Waddie Bill

The Story begins...

Here are the first parts I've found, the carrier and mainspring are original, the hammer was made by a machinist.  I'm still looking for an original though.

Charlie,
Your receiver is not listed in my research survey, but there are several serial numbers around it.  I think you may find that your receiver was once a standard sporting rifle with 28" octagon barrel in caliber .40-60 WCF.  According to my list, there are several guns in and around your serial number, all with the same configuration and caliber.  I have now added your reciver serial number to my list.  Thank you.

Hi
Have you tried VTI Gunparts http://www.vtigunparts.com/store/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=43&cat=Uberti+1876+Rifle
Got a new carrier block for one of my original 76s and it now works perfectly.

Winchester Charlie

Hi Tom,

I have been to the web site, but i dont know how much of the Uberti parts fit the original.  I know the toggle links are different.
Do you know how many parts will fit?

Thanks

Hi
When I found VTI had parts for Uberti 76s I e mailed them to ask if the carrier would fit an original and they said yes with a little work. It took me a while as I did the job slowly and kept assembling and dismantling (not wanting to remove to much material) until it loaded the cartridges without jamming. I have tried contacting Chaparral  for spares on many ocassions but I never had a reply.
It may be an idea to contact VTI by e mail and ask if any other parts fit. Hope this is of some help.

Regards.

And our hero grows...

Found the carrier spring and arm, both original. Looks like I need to order some screws next. :D

Hello all,

Well as you can see I found all the parts I needed to put this receiver back together.  It works pretty slick, and I'm very happy with it ;D.  I have a mag tube already, time for a barrel and a stock.  The last piece I need is a buttplate 8).

It's been a little while...life took a couple of unexpected turns and forced me to shelve the project for some time but here she is with new furniture.  A little interesting bit of history regarding the stock. Both pieces were made from the same piece of wood that my father had saved when my grandmothers house was torn down 20+ years ago. The house was built in 1884, the same year this gun was made.  I think that's just cool. 8)
I want to thank Dave at 2nd Amendment Co., LLC in Cedar Rapids, IA for doing the fit and finish.
Next up is finishing the metal.
