1876 Parts

Hello all,

I just recently purchesed an original Winchester 1876 receiver.  I want to bring the gun back to life. I've been looking over the forum and see the Chaparral 1876 is the best for parts.  However, everything i'm reading is about two years old.  I just wanted to make sure the information is still good.  Is Charter arms still the contact here in the US?

Hi, Charlie.

Unfortunately, Charter no longer handles the Chaparral Arms models of either the 76 or the 73, and there is no source of parts in this country.  However, I understand that Marstar in Canada is still importing the Chaparral guns and has parts for them.

I don't know much about Marstar, and I am just reporting what I have read on other forums.  Of course, parts can be ordered directly from Italy also.  http://www.chaparralarms.com/  

Another option, although a slow process, is to watch ebay.  A surprising number of parts show up there.  

In addition, you can contact Buckingham, who has many parts for the originals.  No website, but his phone number is 731-559-4169 by day, and 731-559-4357 nights.  Albert Buckingham is kinda old school!

Well, here it is.  This is what I have to start with.  It was found in house that was being torn down in Wisconsin.
I'll post more pics as I go along.  This should be fun, and take some time.

New Memeber and glad I found this site. Lots of good information here. I recenetely purchased a original 76 action with about 12" of barrel remaining in the action. Under the surface rust and slime on the action the metal is in decent shape no deep pits The markings are crisp and strong.  I had bought this ti use as a paper weight around the shop but something looked odd about the barrel stub. he Cod reference sheet revealed that s/n 61788 left the factory on 9/11 (my birthday oddly enough) 1889 as follows:

30" barrel
Set trigger
Lyman fron sight
Extra heavy barrel

After reading all tha I have reached the decision to resotr it to near original I have sock blanks of xxxx wood, A good source for the barrel, Im aking liberties with the finish as it will be case colored, No finish was mentioned on the Cody sheet but I am pretty sure it was blue. pics to follow along with progress pics,

I also am in need of all the parts, sideplates and set trigger included. Thanks Mike

Both should be interesting projects. Btw does the set trigger still work? Be sure to save the barrel stub so you can duplicate the size of the barrel.

I suspect that the set trigger, if missing or nonfunctional, will be your biggest challenge.
