Just an update ... I had mentioned that I had sent a Baikal SXS to Steves's Gunz , so I thought I should let the group know the present standing ...

It is getting pretty near December and  situation on the Bakal I sent to Streve's Gunz is remarkably quiet.

The work was supposed to be done in September (I sent the shotgun to him in July).

I have sent him several emails asking about the situation as nicely as I could.

I have yet to have a voicemail, email or PM on cascity.com ...

I would not suggest ever sending a gun to him until I get this straighttened out ..

I have sent him another email through his 'Contact Us' on his website.

No reply, but it has only been about 18 hours ...

He is probablly busy working. You might try PM ing him over on the SASS wire,I know I tend to check in there more frequently than here, just a thought.    Adios  Sgt. Jake

First, thanks for your reply ...

Okay, I will go with the fact that 'he is just probably busy working' since he recieved the gun in July and is still 'busy working' five months later ... I am sure that could happen ....

except that I don't have his monniker ... and he is not listed in SASS as 'Steves' Gunz' ... any suggestions?

His SASS alias is Nate Kiowa Jones.  Use the search, find a post where he has responded, click on his avatar and you can send him a PM.

Pettifogger,

I should have known that ... can I claim a senior moment?  I just could not think of his Monniker ...

I'll send him off one right away  Thanks!

You could, but I forget what the question was.

BTW, I went to a Men's group from my church and Steve had replied .. says the gun will be done by the New Year ... I can hardly wait ... I have a new Stoeger and a Model 87 Winchster (Norinco), but the Baikal just 'feels' better to me ...

I got a phone call the second week in January saying he was working on my gun then ... and did I want him to send it back unfunished or keep it and repair it at his hourly rate and send it to me fixed. This was after the phone call saying it would be done
by Christmas ...

I told him that I wanted the gun fixed and to let me know what the bill was when he fixed it.

I am still waiting for a call about how the gun turned out and what the bill is.

Even am email telling me what was wrong and what had been fixed would be nice ...

I have to say that currently NKJ has not worked on any of my gunz, but I have only required repairs on 2 gunz since starting shootin SASS.
1. A Taylors  Cattlemen that Jim Bowie had at Cowboys and Indians for about 3 months or so.
2. A Liberty double that the Late Bob Shaw had for 4 months or better.

Both these gunz came back far better than expected and very reasonably priced.

OH I forgot I had a Great Western lock up and EMF fixed it while I talked with Debbie...

Unfortunatly there are far more cowboy shooters than gunsmiths (especially good ones) and losing Bob Shaw was a great loss..
My pard Zyzzx Zeke left a Remington with CandI for about 4 months before repaired.

All that said, I have spoken to Nate on several occasions, and he is a man to ride with. I am currently trying to convince Old Top to send in his 92 and it will go to Nate.

all this said, I now it  is very frustrating, but we really do have a shortage of good gunsmiths....and as far as I am concerned Nate is one of the best..

Just thought I would let you all know why things have been slow with Steve's guns. He had some major health problems and has been a bit getting back on his feet.
I have had a rough winter also and have been a little slow getting things out. As we get a little older things just don't always go the way we would like. It's not the years, it's the miles. ;D

I'm sorry to hear that Nate has not been well. I will say that I sent a Pietta 1858 Remington cap 'n ball revolver to him a few years ago and he did an outstanding action job on it. He smoothed the action, cut the forcing cone, etc. and it now cocks as smooth as a Colt single action and is very accurate. At that time, 2004 or so, I had the pistol back from him with all work done within a month.

Bishop,

That is good to hear ... I wish him all the best with his health!

Steve does killer work and that is the problem.  He is way too popular.
If you want a gun slicked up vs one requring immediate repair.  Work it out with him and send it in when he is ready to work on it.

When I got my 92 from him I was given the option he could order the gun have it sent to me and I could send it back when its turn came up or I could just wait.

I already had a rifle so just waited.  Took a little longer than expected but came nicer than expected.

I noticed in my earlier post that I had forgotten to write what I had intended to say:

We were going to have NKJ look at Top's rifle, and what Steve was doing at the time was taking a $50 deposit to hold your space and he would call you when it was almost your turn for repairs..etc..

I hope yer gun comes back the way you want it. Losing Lone$um Bob Shaw down here was a big loss. Lately I have been having Rowdy Yates take care of our gun issues.

hope to see you some time down the road.

Major 2,

I have a Cap Coyote Norinco Model '87 and a Stoeger Overlander as a backup ... and he never finished the Baikal... said he would send it back so I could make it a Wallhanger .... it's just not a fight I want to start; and my only 'prize' I would get from the battle is a hunk of steel and wood to hang up on the wall ...better off just to forget it .... there are some fights worth fighting and some better just to walk away from ...

I just saw a post on another forum that mentioned that Steve of Steve'sGunz had a real bad medical issues.  This could surely be the reason for the delays.
