Will, that is a great tutorial and the pictures are first rate.  I have just gotten 3 of your holster patterns and they are also first rate.  Will also be looking forward to the finished patterns for both the Ute and the Apache.  Thanks for all the hard work.

That pattern will be a good one. You sure are getting it ironed out.

Hey Folks!

I haven't had much time to re-work the Sky Ute moc pattern, but I have spent some time thinkin' about the needs of those who may want to make their own moccasins.  Here are a couple ideas I've come up with.  If you are interested in makin' your own mocs, I'd like to know what you think of my musin's.

First, it turns out the most expensive part of this project is goin' to be the printin' costs.  Since the moc patterns will be purchased in one specific length, I want to keep the cost as low as possible.  Traditionally, I've listed the materials and tools needed for the project on the back of my pattern envelopes.  But, to save money, I would offer the envelope's front and back covers as a printable download.  That way, if someone wanted pictures on their envelope, they could print them out themselves.  At the link below, I have moc-ups of the front and back envelope covers for the Sky Ute Moccasin pattern.

Also, printing out thorough instructions with photographs is goin' to be real expensive.  So, I thought I would offer the instructions online for free.  You could follow along on your computer, or print off the pages you wanted to take to your work table.  I already have the Sky Ute tutorial online, (though that will be changed with the re-engineering of the Sky Ute pattern), but it isn't in an easily printable format.  All future online tutorials would be printer friendly for the convenience of the customer.

Lastly, folks have asked me if they could just buy enough leather to make the mocs.  They don't want to spend the money it would take to buy a whole hide.  I would have to mark-up the price of the leather to cover my costs and the time it took to rough-cut the leather, but it would still be less expensive than buyin' a whole hide.  Then I thought about addin' thread and a couple needles to have a basic kit.

So, there are my ideas:  free down-loadable and printable instructions and envelope covers to cut costs, and; a roughed-out kit that includes enough leather, thread, and needles to make the mocs.

There ya' have it.  If you're inclined to make your own moccasins, let me know what you think!

Not a problem Rick.  The patterns won't come in sizes.  To find the pattern that fits your foot, you stand on a piece of paper and trace the outline of your foot.  Then, measure it from the longest points.  That measurement is rounded up to the next 1/4 inch, and that is the length of the moccasin pattern you want.

Sounds fine Will. The pattern itself is much better than the envelope anyway.
