I recently bought an LCD Flat Screen TV to replace my 25 year TV. Yesterday I picked up a Blue-ray player and watched my all time favorite movie "Lonesome Dove" in Blue-ray. This was the first time I ever watched anything in Blue-ray and all I can say is "WOW". It was just like being there.

Anybody seen any good Westerns lately in Blue-ray?

By the way here is one of my favorite scenes from Lonesome Dove..

You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Harley Starr

1. Pale Rider
2. Silverado
3. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
4. The Quick and The Dead
5. Sukiyaki Western Django
6. 3:10 To Yuma

Just to name a few. The transfers are amazing. Now I need to get Lonesome Dove and Unforgiven, plus whatever favorites that aren't on the format yet.
A work in progress.

Deadeye Don

I already have Lonesome Dove on DVD,  but now that it is out on Blu Ray I think I will need to get that version.

Johnny,   I agree with you on that scene being a great one.  The one scene that still brings tears to my eyes is when Gus dies. That was one powerful friendship those two men had.
Great Lakes Freight and Mining Company

Buffalo Creek Law Dog

The Searchers
Rio Bravo
How the West was Won
SASS 66621
BOLD 678
AFS 43
NFA
ABPA

Icebox Bob

I bought a Blu-Ray reissue of an old movie that I already had on DVD. The quality wasn't any better.  However when I did the same thing of a newer movie, the Blu-ray version was amazing.  I'm guessing that unless an old movie gets re-mastered from some sort of high resolution original your DVD version isn't worth replacing.
Well.... see, if you take your time, you get a more harmonious outcome.

One thing I did notice is some of my newer DVD's such as 3:10 to Yuma, Open Range etc. seem to look better with my new Blue-ray player. That could be because my old DVD player was low tech and my new Blue-ray player is now connected thru an HDMI cable.

I'm not sure about converting all my DVD's to Blue-ray but I'll sure buy the remake of True Grit in Blue-ray.
