A very interesting photo. Note the pommel wear on the forearm of the Spencer. That cabine has been carried many a mile across a saddle!

I've been studying some of the photos posted here of Amerinds with Spencer Carbines and have a thought on this one, and another posted by Lonesome Henry, http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php?topic=35115.0. It appears to me that perhaps the Spencer Carbine in both pic's may be one in the same. If you look at the pommel wear on both of them there is quite a striking similarity. Since these are seemingly professional photos taken for an ethnographic record it may be the photographer's prop. Again, to me anyway.
