hi all can any one tell me what style of hat this is im just getting started in cas and the hat i have is a cheapie one i picked up so i could have one for my first shoot but i hate it i  like this style of one it from the movie camnche moon thanks for the help

Deja vous

I am not sure where you liive.. so I guess Forty knows a hat guy in CA named Bob, I know a buy in AZ named Ralph that owns AZTEC hats.  used him for years when I rode in horses.  I guess you need to find a style you like and then have it shaped to your face too.  A lot of western stores, like PFI here in MO does that.  Hats should match your character but they need to be the look that you like too..  Not everyone looks great in the same hat for sure..  But all look great in a hat!!  have fun..

Deja vous

Oh, gosh the guys need to help you out you are a true future SASS lifer.. lol...   I shoot two rugers 38, a 38 lever action marlin (just gave up Marvin my 45LC marlin) and a pump 1897 copy EMF shotgun 12 gauger.. and i changed to cross draw this year.. Hats, I find the felt hat at a junk store and fix them up.. lol.. Easier for girls though.. Hmm where are all the guys tonight..  ...

bobw1249

i shoot a set ruger in 45lc and a 1866 yellow boy in 45lc and a stoger uplander shot gun  i think it just you and me tonight

Deja vous

Hmm can't be cuz the sass board is down right now...    I did Cattlemen 45s and a 45 marlin 1894 for a while it was okay, but the guys told me to back down to 38s so I did and I do like it better.. Light loads, but still 45 is a lot a gun for me.  You are going to love SASS.. Are you in some local clubs yet?  You need to be and you need to start talking to anyone and everyone.. Deals are made on conversation, so are friendships.. this is the best sport..

Professor Marvel

Ah My Dear Bob -

I expect the reason that the other gent's hats "looked so good" is that they were most likely well sized and fit to their face and heads, as the prior posters pointed out - and further they were most likely a good fur felt!

But do not be overly distressed at the list prices of $150 and up for a quality retail hat - If you  carefully shop the charity, used, junk and thrift stores you may be surprised at what you can find. Recently I was lucky enough to get three different fur-felt genuine Stetsons (of varying quality) for a total of $12 . I am in the process of completely deconstructing and reblocking them (essentially I removed the hant band, sweat band, lining, etc, and am reworking them almost from scratch) but you could send a bargain find to one of the several gents here for rework. Delmonico, if he has the time, can resurrect a wreck of a hat into a beauty!
