Hey pards, any thoughts on where I could find a pattern for a hunter's shoulder bag, the sort that was used from the eighteenth century onwards? I have a yen to make one. Skeet

Cliff Fendley

My wife got me a book for Christmas last year called "Recreating the 18th Century Hunting Pouch" by T.C. Albert.

I don't know where she got it, you might just do a search and see what you find.

I got my information from the Gun Digest series BUCKSKINNING.  Here is one source of patterns.  I havn't used them, but there are several sources

How about this page?  These are bags made by craftsmen and advertised by Track of the Wolf.  Scroll down for the pattern book that Cliff Fendely mentioned.

Qball, is that a Forehand & Wadsworth 1901 resting on the bag?  I have one of those in similar condition.

That is a nice possibiltes bag, I should get one.  I just use a camo fanny pack when out hunting with the musket.

Thank you, the shirt (chamois leather) is also made by my sister,

Nope, it's a "IverJohnson" 1890? something .38S&W
The grip is Swedish Moose that i sanded down.
Was originaly thought to sit on a Colt 1860, but it did not fit.
Unfortunatly i had to let it go, still got a newer blued "Iver" in the same cal. though.

By far Tim Albert's book on making 18th Century shot bags is the best current resource available for those interested in making them.

other resources to view examples and get inspired:
"The Kentucky rifle hunting pouch: Its contents and accoutrements as used by the frontiersman, hunter, and Indian " Madison Grant - a compendium of originals. An older book so some of the dating is questionable (listed as being earlier then actually made), but still a good pattern resource.
