Howdy board,
First post, so if this has been covered, forgive me.
I'm eyeing a '76 Uberti in 45-75 about April next year when Uncle Sam sends me some of my money back.  Am trying to scrounge some "supplies" together, and saw a bullet/mould being offered by Buffalo Arms.

It's a bullet dropped from their number Jiim459350 mould, offered sized at .458 or .459.  It claims to be the old Ideal 456192 bullet, except with a crimp groove.  Has anyone tried this bullet in the new Ubertis? Good?  Bad?  All the reloading info I have seen so far deals with bullets sized to .458.  Is this best, or should I try the .459 as well?

All advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Hugh

Hugh, back in 2007, we had a special remake for the original Ideal 457192 bullet using Lyman blocks for the 45-75.

I'll add in my little tidbit here about bullets for the 45-75.  I ordered a custom Hoch mold based on the original Lyman bullet for this caliber.  It is a bit spendy but since it is the second Hoch mold that I have, I knew that it would be what I wanted and it was.  I cast mine with my only alloy of 16:1 and they cast 350 grains.  Sometimes I use an alloy of 20:1 but have the best luck with the 16:1 alloy.  My mold as with the other one (40-82) is a nose pour type as are all of Hoch molds.  If that mold you are talking about that is from BACO is similar to the original Lyman mold then it should be what you are after.  If you want a Hoch mold that emulates it then you should contact them and tell them what you want.  I do not think that either way you would go would be a bad choice.
When in doubt, mumble!

Hugh, if you want to go on the cheap mould side, here is what the Lee 457-340 does at 100yds

And as for Hoch moulds - they cast the nicest bullets for my 32-40 of any of the 49 or 50 other different caliber moulds I have, several being customs too

Cimarron

I bought my Cimarron Centennial Rifle in June.  It has the .45-75 WCF SAAMI chamber.  I ordered some of the BACO bullets you are refering to.  I wanted to see how they performed before I bought the mold.  So far I have been very pleased, so I think I will go ahead and get one of the molds.  The crimp groove is a handy feature of this bullet.  I have one of the Lyman #457191 molds that throws a 292g bullet but have not tried it yet in this rifle.  Brian Pearce lists some loadings for this as well at the Lyman #457122 mold in the Lyman Reloading Handbook, 49th Edition.  Good luck.
