Pietta's Alchemista wears the 1860 grip frame very well.
Could the same thing be done for the Cimarron/Uberti Model P using an 1860 steel grip frame?
A work in progress.

 I've seen it done

73 has the navy grip frame...the 60 & 51 Navy are the same frame...short answer is yes.

The number of queries in this regard, and the lamentations upon finding the list price of said backstrap, is making me ponder the profitabilty of the manufacture of a backstrap "blank" that could be bent as one desired, and drilled to fit one's frame...

Old Top sorta invented the Alchmista before Pieatta came out with it. We started bugging EMF for the 60 bs/tg about 3+ years ago. He loved the Great Western but didn't like the grip. So, this is what he came up with.

The fit on this was almost perfect, except the screws. The 73 screws didn't fit. the 60 screws didn't fit. We wrote Alchimesta and he personally sent us 2 sets of screws that fit perfectly

As for guns other than the GW, well it will be  a trial and error fit. Some fit, some don't.

good luck

RTR,

The short answer for Uberti guns is yes, some fitting (minor) required.  Very common change when parts are available.  Taint cheap, but still a common change.  I do it for my customers all the time.
Contact VTI Gunparts for availability of grip frames.  Even though expensive, I recommend you enquire about a "set" as they have been assembled on a "blank" and have fitted, finished wood.

Sounds good, I'll keep that in mind. ;)
