Glue for Holster Leather??

Just wondering, is there a special glue or adhesive for leather?

Reason: I got a pair of inexpensive holsters for my Ruger Old Army's.  Their 5 1/2" barrels, and the holsters are for 7 1/2" barrels, got extra inches to trim.  This will damage the stitching.  Would need glue or some sort of adhesive to hold in place till I get enought $$ for proper holsters.

???

Here's how I would do it.

Put a small dot of super glue into the stitch hole on both sides of the piece and let dry. then go down one stitch and cut and trim the thread. Cut off the part you want removed and your done!

I'm sure you will get other ideas.

Another thought would be to go around what will be the new bottom stitch or two with a running stitch for a time or two.  This would require a needle and a small length of thread.  Just curious, what is a proper holster for your Ruger Old Armies?  Will you be playing cap exclusively or do you have other pistols for CAS?

Holster's made specifically for the Old Army.  Preferably in black.

That or completely restitch them. The hard part is done already. Get two needles, some thread, and run the first couple and the last couple of holes through a few times.

Perhaps someone could jump in here as I do not have any ROAs, do they in fact fit the Ruger old model Vaquero holsters well?  I have seen it posted several times and just assumed it to be true but????

Dalton Masterson

I dont have one either, but am working on getting one if all goes right.

I would think that a pattern for a Blackhawk would be correct, if you allow for the loading lever. That would give you the adjustable sight clearance. If its a fixed sight model ROA, then a Vaquero pattern should work, with the loading lever allowed for.

Depending on the pattern you may need to allow for the loading lever.

I carry my ROA in the same holster as my Super Redhawk when BP hunting. It won't fit in my Cheyenne patterns for the Vaquero but will work in a couple of my Mexican loop patterns that have a larger/straighter pipe on them.

Most people order Slim Jims for them which do fit because most already have plenty of room for the loading lever.

Right. You are allowing for the lever, if the pattern already allows for it, ie. a straighter piped holster.
Im just saying that would be the only differences to be aware of between the ROA and a Vaquero.

knucklehead

I have the ruger old model vaquero 357 5 1/2" barrels
and also have the ruger old army .45 7 1/2" barrels

my rugers fit in the holster very well for both models.

i used Will G.s pattern pack for my ruger old armies holsters, my ruger vaqueros fit the holsters like it was made for the vaqueros.

I use the same leather for both my ROA'S and Vaquero's.  Both have 5-1/2" barrels

Back to the original problem,,,,why cut them down atall?

The short barrels are hardly gonna cause a problem, are they?

And, unless you definitely want the short holsters,,,who is gonna say anything, much less notice the difference!!

My fix would be to cut the stitching at the bottom of the welt,,unpick back to just above where you want to shorten, then

re-stitch using the original thread.
