I am looking to buy a knife sheath for the knife in my avatar pic. One in a style that would have possibly been carried by a Confederate Soldier. Can anyone point me in a direction of someone who sells one or someone who would possibly make me one?

Thanks

Rube,
How about one similar to this? I cant get your pic very big to see, but my knife looks pretty similar in size and style to yours.

Rube , any number of us could do a sheath for ya pard,so take a gander and find someone you like.Dave :)

Rather than lend on the 'expertise' of a leather maker ... don't ask me how I know, just know the incident had nothing to go with these fine craftsman here (it concerned a local who had been suggested to me)...

Anyway, to get back on track, I wouild humbly suggest that you find an archival picture showing a sheath to a similar knife and sheath, make several prints of it, and take/send/ attach it to an email, and give it to your choice of leatherworker and say 'I want one just like that!'

Odds are you will get much closer to what you want than if you relied upon another person's imagination to be just like yours ....*S*

All very valid points pards. I will look around for a pic of a sheath. Most pics of confederate soldiers and their D-Bowies are always unsheathed.

Here are some better pics of the knife.

The overall length of the blade is 10"

The top of the blade goes 7 inches before the curve downward.

The knife is overall 15.5 inches.

Well Heck. I didnt even see the big knife in the avatar. I was looking at the one in the center.
Its doable too, if you find a pic.

What is the measurement from the sharp edge at the hilt, to the spine?
My reproduction model is identical to your measurements so far, except mine makes the curve downward about 1/4" sooner than yours.

I had to google hilt.....and if I have it correctly, the piece from the handguard to where the sharp edge starts. That is about and inch and a quarter roughly.

I like that one also. Just looking for a plain one that a confederate soldier would have carried in the field.

Years ago, I had a customer ask me to re-handle a broken CSA sword and turn it into a long knife. Here's the final product and sheath that went with it.Dave :)

Rube, the biggest challenge you will have is narrowing down who you want to do this. There is no lack of fine leatherworkers to make you a sheath; Dave Cole and Dalton are both highly respected on this forum and would do you a great job. There are others as well.

If someone wants to pm me with an estimate of what it would cost I would gladly listen.

I had Dalton make me a really nice pair of Slim Jim holsters a while back and love them. Other than him I have not had anything made for me.
