Hey folks.  I need to wear sunglasses in the sun to keep from getting headaches.  Anyone have some that would look appropriate?  I dont think my Gargoyles quite fit that bill.

I have a dark pair of glasses that are pre-1900's that I use to use, but now have to wear regular glasses & can no longer wear them.  I bought them at an estate sale last year & was told they were used in a livery stable for eye protection from bright metals being fired in the furnances.  I have had them looked over by several eye docs who claim they are very old indeed & probably original.  I would consider lettin' em go iffn' the price was right!  They resemble John Lenon glasses & have no nose pads.  They set right on top of your nose as that is how they were designed back then.  The ear pieces form around the ears.  If interested, send an emule for pics! ;)

Did I mention I have a pair?  ;) :D

gryffon,

There is nothing wrong with using Gargolyles while anywhere near the shooting line or bays. We have had many threads about eye safety, using modern materials and designs being more important than period correctness when your sight is actually at risk.

I agree with Standpat.  When you're dealing with lead splashback as we do, using period type eyeware is just asking for trouble.  Use some modern sunglasses with safty lenses.  I wear Oakley myself.

When it comes to eyes, I suggest the best protection - not the 1880s. Just one opinion. Get some DeCots (arizona) and thank your smart stars when there is a ricochet. Forget the period correct for your vision. Just my opinion based on may hits from ricochets over the years and the DeCots have been superb.

Boy, talk about blowin' a guys chance to sell somethin', lol. ;) :D

I like the ugly wrap around "shooting glasses" (also sold as fishing glasses, same durn thing, both polycarb lenses) in various colors for varying condtions.  On a dark dreary morning bright amber wakes up the contrast, etc.  Though I admit to wearing my kinda big wire framed "motorcycle riding" polycarb lens  sunglasses in the afternoon, because they are polarized to reduce glare, and the wrap around ones sweat and steam so bad they fog easily.

El Paso Pete

Look around in welding supply web sites or your local welding supply store.  They got gas welding glasses that look like Badlands Walkers but they come with leather side Shields.  You can get 'em in various degrees of darkness.  Thats for GAS weldin, not arc.

Y not use the small periodicals under some big clear safetyglases?
(The kind that is made of clear plastic, frame and all)
That way you look periodical from a distans but still in a safe way.
After all you only got one pair of eyes
